Which program is more advantageous for college admission, International Baccalaureate or Advanced Placement courses?

I have the impression that IB is more rigorous than AP, but I don’t think it will matter much in terms of admissions.

everything you ever wanted to know

I’ve always been under the impression that IB is more impressive than AP. With IB, you graduate with an IB diploma. My school doesn’t offer IB, however, because of how new it is I’m guessing.

IB is the BEST! Our school will be an IB school next year & there are about 15 students participating. Most of the students are in the top 10% in our class. IB is too much work for me, I prefer AP because you can pick and choose and have a social life!

If you take a full load of AP courses, they’re equal. Obviously, taking IB is better than taking one AP course in your high school career.

One generalization I’ve heard a lot is that AP math & science are the most rigorous and IB humanities are the most rigorous. I have to say that the AP maths and sciences I’ve taken/ will take are way harder than my AP English and social studies classes, so that’s very possibly true.

IB All the way. I’m in IB, i have some regrest at times, but that is because there is a lot of work involved, but I know it’ll be worth it, eventually. Granted though, you have to see what your school is good at whether it be IB or AP. at our school, the AP program is strong in some parts, but overally, very weak unlike IB, which is way better. So, it is just a choice. but I would say IB.

IB is death, but it’s worth it. The fact that it’s really well rounded is what appeals to me, as well as that it’s really rigorous. I heard more colleges are starting to recognize IB…

The only downside is that you can only take 6 classes of which 3 (or 2, in my case -_-) will be SL (ie. not AP level.) If you do AP, you can get a lot more college credit.
