AP vs. SAT II?

What are the pros and cons to taking the SAT II subject tests over the AP or vice versa?

Do colleges prefer one or the other in general?

APs are certainly preferable...IMO, a 5 on an AP test looks better than an 800 on an SAT subject test...just because (in my experience) some of the SAT subject test curves are really nice. Then again, that is true for some AP tests...I'm not relaly sure.

Many schools require a minimun of two SATII's. Although I have never found a school that requires an AP test. SATII's get you no college credit, AP will likely warrant you credit with a good score.

I got a question I got a 5 on European history but I was under the impression that colleges dont see that for admissions do I have to bold it on my resume or something ? since the SAT II is directly on my app i think i would trade my 5 for an 800

Most applications have a section for all standarized test scores, not just SAT. I'm pretty sure that colleges DO consider it for admissions, it's just not REQUIRED. If there's no section for it on the app I'd include it somewhere (many apps have an "additional comments" section) as not everyone has 5's ;-)

I don't know. If I was a college, I'd look more at the SAT IIs. Although they don't include FR portions, they are more harsh on the scale. This means that it is harder to get an 800, rather than a 5.

SAT IIs are used for placement. its what admissions officers occasionally look at do well on them but don't stress. the AP test...honestly isnt as important for admission. Haven taken the class is what is important...if you're self taught...then you might want to include it in the additional information...otherwise...its not that important.

i have a question...although we've established that they're not requried (APs), if you've taken AP Classes, will it look weird if you've taken no tests?

no. i honestly dont think that the test matters all that much...its more about the grade your recieved in a challenging class.

Thanks guys - your input is really appreciated.
