AP World Background Books

Next year I will be taking AP World History. I haven't taken world history in the past couple years, so I would like to review over the summer. I am looking for some books, fiction or non-fiction, that would give me a better background. (I am best with history from about 1850 on. Before 1850, for areas outside the U.S. and Europe, I know only the basics). My teacher said that AP World focuses mainly on Asian history, which I don't have much of a background in. I am not looking for a review book (I have heard that Barron's is good for that) or a textbook, I am looking more for a few 'normal' books that will fill in some of the blanks and give me some context for the information in the course. (So far I have checked out several books, including The Three Inch Golden Lotus and Rebellions and Revolutions: China from the 1800s to the 1980s, but I don't know if they are relevant to the course.) Thanks for your help!

Try Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond. It’s pretty interesting.

Try ‘The world that trade created’ by Kenneth Pomeranz, or ‘The history of the world in six glasses’. Both books have historical facts, but are slightly interesing to read.

Great! I really appreciate the suggestions. Luckily, the library has the books mentioned.
