Unfortunately for me, I got a little trigger-happy on the WHAP COT essay, and instead of really doing change over time, I compared divergent processes of nationalism within Turkey and Iran as indicative of divergent processes in the region as a whole.

I just don't think I played up the whole concept of changes and continuities, so what is the maximum score I can expect on this essay?

Hmmm I might have done the same..but I doubt it.

The essay did require you to discuss "specific countries" in the region...as long as you related the differing processes of nationalism in each country to differing changes and continuities, you are good. As long as your essay compares the CHANGES and CONTINUITIES resulting from the nationalistic movements in those countries, you'll be fine!

lowfat - I'm fine, really... But the thought of missing out on a 5 because of a really stupid error aggravates me to no end. Oh well, c'est la vie!

smder - Thanks very much - your post gives me some hope, as I did give time frames for the divergent processes and gave some indication of changes over time and continuities by referencing Tanzimat reforms of 1860s as well as the doctrinal schism in Islam in the 1300's... don't worry, it was relevant!

i did my COT on sub-saharan Africa. I kind of talked about the effects of slave trade/imperialism and how the world wars lead to cries for independence. i didnt go into much detail but mentioned Kenya and Ghana.

kudos to everyone who did theirs on ME- i wasnt brave enough, even though i read about it the night b4. :)

yeah I self-studied for AP world and when I got to the essays, I was totally clueless on what to write as I had no knowledge of essay structure (really to lazy check collegeboard). I didn't know how to do a change over time essay, so I just discussed the topic over the broad span of 1914-present... the choice was easy too: subsaharan Africa? joke? I'm hoping for at least a 4 on this... that's pretty awful yeah but I know I did well on the comparative and DBQ

Ehh, I was freaking out on my COT because I was technically "behind schedule" for the time limits they set on the essays after the DBQ. Therefore, I didn't think that clearly when planning my essay and I included Algeria as one of my main points in the COT on Sub-Saharan Africa, which just happens to NOT be in Sub-Saharan Africa.

I hope that doesn't kill me. I wasn't that confident on the MC either.

smder: I think my main problem was that I really didn't address COT in the time period itself but rather described the paths to nationalism as products of changes and continuities OUTSIDE of the period. I was never hoping for a 7+ score on this essay, but frankly, I would now be happy with anything besides a 0! (A 3 on the COT would be ideal, isn't that sad?)

aznhsiehboi: I really feel for you because I wasn't thinking too clearly on my COT either!
