I'm currently taking AP World History at school. I NEED a 5 on the AP test. My teacher isn't the greatest; the teacher hasn't taught us to write essays well (DBQ, Change over Time, Comp/Cont) and I feel like I'm going to have a VERY difficult time with multiple choice.

What is the best way that I can prepare for the AP exam? How should I study? Flash cards, AP Review books (which ones?), sample tests, etc? How have you guys that got 5s studied for this exam?

Also, how can I work on writing a better essay for each type?

read the textbook - that worked well for me. If you want to know how to write the essay, the APWH course description will provide a rubric for each essay. Getting a 8 or 9 on these essays are straightforward.

Read through Barron’s now (ditch your textbook). A week before the test, read through PR a few times.

I would get PR. AP Wrld isn’t that difficult of an exam, so I would take notes on the textbook that you’ve been given. Do some free MC’s wherever they’re available and keep your DBQ skills sharp by taking some topics off of the Collegeboard Website. PR is awesome, read through that whole book.
