I'm taking the test in May and I was wondering what people have done to help sink all the information in and do well on the test. I'm using the Barron's book with my textbook and it does help, but are there any other strategies/resources/tips I can use to help better prepare me for the exam?

Write random history essays and ask your teacher to look them over. Learn the themes of the periods in history (feudalism, colonialism). One question for us was Describe changes and continuities in the Indian Ocean trade route from 650 AD - 1750 AD. Huge time frame and i knew absolutely nothing about it. I still got a 4. Doing the essay practice will help with the multiple choice, since youre learning facts about history. just a thought

^Yeah I remember that topic. Our DBQ was about the Olympics, it baffled me at first but it was pretty easy to write. I got a 5.

Don’t study every single fact that you learned and don’t reread your textbook, it’s overkill and won’t help. Study main ideas, time periods, important people and events, etc.

Practice writing essays in the allotted time, take 2-3 minutes to plan then just start writing; while you’re still finishing up a paragraph you can start planning the next one. Time is short but if you manage wisely you’ll be in good shape. Practice the formats too - comparison, change over time, and DBQ. Remember that the APWH curriculum covers five major time periods - antiquity-650, 650-1450, 1450-1750, 1750-1914, and 1914-present. The change over time always covers two time periods so if you’re shaky on one you can do the other.

I really liked Princeton Review’s book. The review was much more relevant and the practice tests are way more accurate than Barron’s. Barron’s seemed a bit more like a textbook, and the practice questions were always contextual (like who was, what was, how did); the AP World History exam tests you more on the concepts and the relationships between time periods, cultures, events, etc. (more like in what way were the han and gupta similar or something)
