AP World History to my school is like Defense against the Dark Arts to Hogwarts: we can’t seem to keep a teacher for more than one year. The teacher I have now doesn’t have background in world history and is teaching us straight from the Princeton Review book, which is a great review book, but is it going to be sufficient to get a 5 on the actual exam? Our assigned textbook is pretty bad (World History, by Duiker and Spielvogel) so I want to avoid it if I can. Thoughts/suggestions CCers?

Get Traditions and Encounters by Bentley if possible.

Everyone in my class last year just read the princeton review book as our teacher was next to useless and we were all lazy…i’d say about half of them got 5’s, so i like your chances

That’s encouraging, thanks! I was worried because a lot of people say the Princeton Review is not in-depth enough. Last year only half of the people who took the course at my school actually passed, I think two or so got a 5.

Whoever told you the Princeton Review book is not detailed enough is right. I have the Princeton Review book and it seems like a book thats good for last-minute cramming (I’m self-studying for AP World History and AP Psychology because my schools doesn’t offer any AP courses). I recommend you use Barron’s AP World History. The best way to study for an AP course is to practice questions, so also purchase 5 stps to 5 - 500 questions for AP World History. The questions are very similar to the actual test and the book also has detailed answer explanation, which is extremely helpful.
