AP World History!

Im taking the exam thursday, is there anyone else taking it? Also, Im sure a lot of you have already taken it, can you shed some light on it, was it hard, how are MCQ and the FRQ. Can you all offer me some tips, im really worried.

What should I focus on studying etc.?

Also, I read somewhere that we can see the past exams. Is there anyway I can see them other than paying the "not for profit" collegeboard?

hey yeah im taking it on thursday as well, im reading PR right now. also working on a DBQ. it should be pretty easy, cus MC is worth 2/3 of grade, FR is worth 1/3 so just do good on Multiple choice and write a lot on the essays like 2.5 pages per essay. just include a thesis, and what they want. dont put in extra stuff dont need to. for DBQ, just have a really good thesis, POV, 3 groupings, additional document, and 2.5 pages and ur all set.

actually the exam grade is weighted equally between the multiple choice and the FR sections

Yeah, they ARE weighted equally. Cmon, I'm sure nearly everyone has taken the course, it is one of the first AP courses most students take.

One more question, do you have to write the essays with pen or can you use a pencil. Whenever I write with pens, its real sloppy and barely legible but with pencils my handwriting isnt too bad.(Want to leave a good impression)

I'm almost certain you have to write in pen.

Pen, that sucks. Anyone know abt my questions above, im really stressing out:(

.....anyone?

Don't stress over the test, I remember I crammed for it in 2 days. I had a Princeton Review book and there was only about 120 pg's in there.

You have to realize that the questions they ask can't be too in-depth. I mean c'mon, it's world history :)

You shouldn't worry, I remember taking the exam in the 9th grade and it was a breeze. I reccomend brushing up on how to write an frq essay for the exam, and not really sweating the MC too much 'cause I left like 10-12 blank and I still got a 5. Although I did right some awesome essays, if you have time I reccomend reading the kaplan world history review book 'cause the essay review section really prepared me.

Are we allowed to choose questions. How many FRQ questions do they give to choose from?

i took a practice test today (MC only) and got a 50/70 on it (i answered them all too, so correction factor is -5... so 45 in the end).. what would that give me, based on me having good essays (at least 6 or 7 on each one)?

would that be a 4?

That would be a 5. The scale is different on each test but it would be a pretty safe 5 on the one I took, so at least a 5 on other versions I'd say :)

I'm gonna take it too! good luck! i know i'm gonna fail. lol
I took the course online because its a req. for graduation, and it was so hard! Just finished the course a day ago. =. I'm not too worried about the essays, MC on the other hand.. yeah about world history. what did I learn? lol

Our class took a practice exam in early April as our final, and I managed alright. We had just covered WWI, so pretty much any question from 1918 on was going to be a matter of guessing.

PR suggests you get 50+ MC, 7+ DBQ, and 6+ on the two essays in order to aim for a 3+. However, if you get those bare minimum standards, you're probably closer to a 5.

What score would I receive if I got a 52/70 (MC) 8(DBQ) 6(Comp./Cont.) and a 7(COT) ????

that's definitely a five

So on another thread on this board, there is a grading scale that you can use to see what your predicted score would be. But remember that it changes from year to year!

So for powerbomb, your predicted score (assuming you answered all of the MC questions) would be a 89.994395 or a 5
And for Peytoncline, your score (based on a 50/70 on Mc and a 6 on each essay- which is the bare minimum so you should probably expect more- especially on the DBQ) would be a 79.1046 or a 5 (barely).

So basically, it's pretty easy to get a 5. Try to get at least 70% of the MC correct (remember they don't count off for those that you don't answer so unless you can narrow it down to two or three choices, it's better not to guess) and at least a 6 on easch essay (but DBQ's are an easy 7 or 8...according to my teacher).

This is the conversion factor stuff in case any of you want to play around with it to see your potential scores.

AP World History

Multiple Choice

(# correct - .25 * # incorrect) * .869

Essays

DBQ: # out of 9 * 2.2222
Compare/Contrast: # out of 9 * 2.2222
Change over Time: # out of 9 * 2.2222

Add up the four numbers (DO NOT ROUND UNTIL YOU HAVE ADDED THEM ALL UP) and round to the nearest whole number.

78-108 -- 5
62-77 -- 4
43-61 -- 3
27-42 -- 2
0-26 -- 1

And for hassaanu original questions:

from what I've heard, the test is pretty easy if you study. I know that there are slightly (like one -three) more questions for the 600-1450 period than any of the others. MC is supposed to be a breeze and the DBQ and FRQ will be ok if you pace yourself. If you want a pretty good overview of each section, this is my AP WH teachers website. He has made a review powerpoint for each section of history. I suggest looking through them and if you really don't remember something, look it up in your book.

AP World History Notes for Review

I'm not really sure about the past tests...I know that you can take practice tests on Sparknotes that are supposed to be pretty good. They also have the DBQ and FRQ online from the past few years. They don't have answers but htey can give you an idea of what sorts of questions they ask. Here's a link for that:

Practice Free Responses

So if I get lucky I'll get 35/70 (after subtractions), 6/9, 5/9, 5/9 and get a 4.. IF i get lucky.

Btw, for the thesis if you dont include too much specific information (like if youre winging it or dont know too much about the topic), you would still get the point for the thesis and if you vaguely contrast/compare the two objects youd get that point too right. You would only lose the historical data point if you dont include specific examples? At least thats what my teacher said.
