I'm thinking of self-studying AP World History this year (going to be a junior), and I decided to take the practice test in the Barron's "How to Prepare for the AP World History" book before I started studying to check the difficulty level of the test (I actually just used the test from the preview of the book available on Amazon where it lets you look at the first few pages, so it's kind of unfair). I thought that the test seemed rather easy- I managed to get 75% of the questions right without any studying or taking a world history course. Is the real AP test this easy, or are the practice tests easier than the real test?

If you are getting 75%, you should go for it. After studying, take a different practice test and see how you do.

Multiple choice is easy (I took 4 multiple choice practice tests before the exam: 69/70 right, 55/70 right, 50/70 right, 50/70 right), you’ll have to focus on essays. You’ll want to do at least 4 DBQs, 4 CCs, and 4 CoTs under test conditions, and maybe a few others with the book open first, just to familiarize yourself with the formats (note: book unnecessary for DBQs). But don’t rely on your score on just one practice test. You’ll still have to study. Though if you’ve been watching History Channel from an early age, you should know a lot (this was my advantage).

Out of curiosity, what was the source of this practice test? It could make a big difference.

Wow, fast responses!

Source was this book: [Amazon.com: How to Prepare for the AP World History…](http://www.amazon.com/How-Prepare-AP-World-History/dp/0764118161)

By the way, I know that I’ll have to study for the test- right now I’m trying to see if the test isn’t too difficult for me to study for.

For practice tests, do some that are from collegeboard (there are two in the internet). PM me if you want them.

I took the questions in the first link that you gave and I got the same percentage as usual.

I think that I’ll study for it this year. Would it be good to take the SAT 2 in Decemberish (since I’d have had several months to study) to see how well I know the material?

800 on the SAT II history is very hard to do. 5 on the AP world history is very easy to get.
I self studied for it my sophomore year and got a 5. The key is how well you can bs your essays. If you can write like 3 four page essays in 2 hours on random history, culture, and dbqs, you’re all set.

As for the SAT IIs, the choice is yours. I personally didn’t take any humanities satIIs… I’m a math/science guy anyways.
