Apartment/suite style dorms are taken. What should I choose now?

I had wanted a dorm with a non-communal bathroom (beaty, springs, and lakeside). My sign up date is not until April 20th and it looks like all those dorms are already taken :(

What dorms are the best to live in (besides those)? Such as, which have the biggest rooms, cleanest and most updated facilities, etc?

I also know Hume is good, but I did not apply to the honors college so I can't sign up for Hume. I have heard that if Hume has vacancies left over they let non-honors students fill the rooms, but I can't count on that for now.

Thanks for the info

I know the idea of a communal bathroom seems bad, but it really is an opportunity to meet other people on your dorm floor. When you wash your hands or brush your teeth, you opt for friendliness and say hi to someone else there or in the hallway to and from there. They clean the bathrooms daily, so they aren’t too bad. You can bring a special pair of flip flops to use as shower shoes. A bathroom down the hall is really the best way to meet other friends on your dorm floor…they are looking to meet friends too! Then, you can move into an apartment hopefully the next year with the people you meet.

I actually preferred communal bathrooms when I lived in dorms! Hear me out here - they are always CLEAN, whereas trust me, your suitemates will vomit on every available surface in your suite bathroom, and guess who’s going to be stuck cleaning that up? And in suite bathrooms, your suitemates will also leave the door locked all the time so you have to run down two flights of stairs and use the lobby restroom to pee and wash yourself in the sink for your 8am class. Trust me - I lived in Hume and Jennings, and I LOVED Jennings and hated Hume.

As for non-honors - don’t live in Hume unless you’re honors. We get really cliquey, and you won’t make friends there unless you’re able to take Honors classes with them.

I HIGHLY recommend Jennings for your first-choice dorm, Broward for your second, and Murphree for your third. They’re all in great locations, very social, and the first two were renovated last year and look gorgeous. Welcome to UF! Go Gators!

Which dorm is nicer Broward or Jennings? I saw Jennings and its mock dorm. The actual dorm was whatever but the inside of the building (such as common areas) had looked updated, does Broward look a lot different?

Is Yulee nicer than both of them?

Pick Jennings! Broward is probably about equally as nice, but it’s notorious for loud, pre-fraternity kids who are loud.

My Ranking:

 1. Jennings
 2. Murphree
 3. Broward

Hey, if you’re still looking for apartments or suite-style rooms, you should definitely keep checking daily. I had my housing date on Friday and ultimately had to chose Graham, which was a traditional double room. I randomly decided to check this morning and out of no where spots opened up for Beaty and I was able to get a room with my roommate, so don’t lose hope.

If you end up having to chose a traditional dorm, I’d definitely say Tolbert or Broward:D

do you guys know anything about the Keys Area??

Keys isn’t open to freshman:(

yeah I know, Im a transfer and I was just wondering if there was anyone in my similar situation that may know about the amount of vacancies.

here are some resources that might help:

Don’t forget Tolbert Area. Although it’s a little farther away from the classes, its very convenient to the Con-Dome and the Swamp and the Reitz is not too far away either. When I went, we had the annual mudfest – all sorts of sporting events in a huge mudpit.
