Dorm Questions UF

So I am considering attending UF for the fall, and I was looking for any advice on where to stay. I would really like to avoid communal bathrooms if possible. I know the two new dorms are all suite style, but a bit more pricey! I think Murphee and Flectcher hall have some rooms that are suite style…which means they have a bathroom and kitchen? I do want to stay on campus, and something more centrally located would be preferred. Any advice would be appreciated!

I think the only ones with kitchens for freshmen are Beaty and lakeside. I’m not 100% though

Are you a girl? Try Windsor or Ivy Hall

Murphree Area dorms (including Fletcher) are NOT suite style. HOWEVER, most rooms contain their own sinks, and the location is the BEST on campus. Though they have communal bathrooms, there’s few girls per floor (like 10-16) so it’s rarely crowded. I had a friend in Thomas and she said the bathroom almost always seemed empty. There’s also only one shower and like two toilets so it’s not bad (and you could always shower on another floor if needed!). Each section also has a communal kitchen!

Springs is suite style, in the sense that you share a bathroom with your roommate and the two girls next door. There’s a communal floor kitchen. The location is okay, but not great - kind of far from most places, but some buses go by there. It’s close to Fraternity Row and pretty close to the baseball, football, and basketball stadiums!

Hume has a similar layout to Springs, but Honors students get top priority (so if you’re not in Honors a spot might be hard to get) AND is more expensive than most dorms (though cheaper than the two new ones!)

Keys (fairly close to Springs) and Lakeside (kind of far from everything, pretty much the worst location) contain 4-person suites, which contain their own bathroom AND kitchen - sort of like an apartment-style.

Beaty also contains its own kitchen and bathroom in a 4-person suite, though the suite is much smaller than the ones in Keys and Lakeside, and you’d share your bedroom with a roommate (whereas in the other two you’d get your own room). The rooms are pretty tiny in Beaty, so if you’re not willing to bunk your beds it can get preeeetty cramped! But, Beaty is right by the most popular freshman dorms, so you’d easily be able to make friends in Broward, Reid/Yulee/Mallory/Cypress, Rawlings, and Jennings!
