Apartments

What are some good apartments? I am mainly looking for a quiet area with a low crime rate. I would need a 3 x 3 apartment. My price range is around $600 or less. I have heard that Riverside apartments are not safe. I also heard that in Riverside the best choices were Ballpark and Townlake. Are there any other good apartments in Riverside? I was also wondering about West Campus apartments. I know they are more expensive but if there is any in the $600 price range then can someone give me information about it? Thanks

I have heard Riverside is generally not a safe area. This is why their prices are pretty cheap compared to West Campus (where it is more safe, costlier). The one’s in the $600 price range are pretty bad from the reviews and from what I’ve heard. You can find out more about West Campus apartments here [West Campus apartments, UT apartments, Austin apartment locators in Austin, TX](http://www.westcampusliving.com/).

If you can’t afford or find an apartment in another area, the Ballpark and Townlake are definitely better than some of the other apartments in the Riverside area. I think it has something to do with the fact that they aren’t actually on Riverside, they’re down off Pleasant Valley towards the dam, and the crime seems to stay localized to the main road.

If you want quiet and on the shuttle line, I’d check out the apartments off Far West. They are a bit further out but it’s a more calm environment than West Campus.

Try looking in the north campus area. This is generally from about 30th through Hyde Park (51st) There are lots of bus routes that go through the neighborhoods and its a lot quieter than West Campus. The rent is usually a little less because the units are older. (I’m living in a 5/3 house for $550/mo) Its cute, but you can feel very removed from the ‘campus’ atmosphere.

I had a friend that lived at the Breakers on the Lake in Riverside last year. Because they shared rooms, it was around $350/mo and the complex was gated, quiet, and right on the bus route. It had a pool and a small gym. Here’s the property info

Its really hard to find something for $600 in West Campus, particularly because if you do find something for that much, they’ll charge you at least 100/mo for parking. (My first year off campus I lived at Villa Nueces which was $725/mo, but they charged $75/mo for parking!!! Definitely one of the reasons I left that place…) Usually you can find a few places with low rent, but that usually only happens in june/july when the management companies get desperate to fill rooms. (Be advised that many of the places that run these specials like J26, The Villas etc. have the tendency to rent by the room, so you may be placed in an apartment with 2-3 other people you have never met before.)

Good luck!
