Good Apartments

What are some good apartments that are not in West Campus? I am most likely going to live in Riverside next year, so what are the good apartments in Riverside? I want to live in a good area with a low crime rate. As far as the actual apartment, I'm not very picky as long as I have my own bedroom and own bathroom. I will most likely be sharing the apartment with 2 or 3 other people so a 3x3 or a 4x4 is what I am looking for. I have researched some of them and I found Town Lake Apartments. Does anyone know if these are good? Also, when should I start looking for apartments and when should I sign the lease to guarantee that I get it for next fall (Fall 2010)?

But Riverside is the area with highest crime rate. o.O
I’ve looked at most of the apartments on Riverside on apartmentratings.com and found that most of them were pretty bad. So I don’t know what to tell you lol. I’m probably looking for ones in West Campus if I don’t get on campus housing…

You should sign the lease now–the best apartments for Fall 2010 are ALREADY gone…they were gone last November.

If you want to live in Riverside (probably because it’s cheap, I’m guessing), then I recommend the Ballpark or Town Lake. While everyone complains about crime rates in Riverside, the worst aspect of living there is the transit time to campus…so I wouldn’t worry too much about crime rates, unless you a. have a car and really need safe parking places or b. have a habit of walking around at 3 AM with no one to accompany you.

Most apartment ratings are pretty bad, including those in West Campus! I’m not sure why this is the case, but there’s really no perfect place to live that’s near the campus or that houses a bunch of campus students, aside from the dorms, of course.

If you’re looking for cheap, old, quiet, and close (or not close) to campus, I suggest you look into North Campus or Far West apartments…for some reason, these locations also get the best ratings and the lowest crime rates.

Find a cheaper apartment in west campus. Try ‘The Lantana’ on West street. It’s older, cool, but cheaper than most in that area. Or maybe try north campus. I highly recommend not living on Riverside. East Austin sucks, Riverside is far from campus, the people are shady, etc. Stay away from E. Austin.

ParadoxUnknown, how likely is it that I can find a 2x2 apartment in either Town Lake or Ball Park within the next month? I still need to check both of those places out first before I make my decision. Also, why were all the good apartments gone by November? Which apartments are you referring to when you say “best apartments”?

I want to bump this thread. I want to stay in either North campus or West campus next semester. any ideas on aprtments…

And also, how do you find a roomate with these apartments

There are plenty of apartments still available in West Campus. Some rent per room and will help you find a room mate.

Alot of my son’s friends live at “the block”. They all like it - West Campus locations, nice facilities, here’s the information:

That’s good to hear. My daughter is thinking of living in on of them next fall. I have a child in one of the Quarters who is happy also.

Don’t panic and don’t be pressured. Take a look around and see what is out there.
