How come some people take AP European History first instead of AP US History? Is AP European History easier and better? I've seen some people's sophmore schedules with APEH instead of taking APUSH.

hm... at my school if you take APUSH it's split into soph and jr year, then if you want to take APEH you take it sr year

I'm not sure about the test or content or anything, but the APEH class itself is a lot harder at my school for kids that didn't take APUSH bc the teacher goes a lot faster and doesn't take as much time to explain DBQs and everything

AP Euro is simply harder than AP US. We learned (in my school) US History since 4th grade. This is our third time over, and in 8th grade our teacher covered 2 years of material in 1 year and gave us pre-AP level prep.

I took AP Euro in my sophomore year and AP US in my junior year simply because AP Euro was the only AP class available to sophomores at my school.

My school goes...
10-AP World History-got a 5
11-AP European History-got a 5
12-AP US History-we'll see how I do

Why? I don't know.

I've always wondered why there isn't an SAT II for European History. Meh.

euro is harder than us but its more interesting

Because US history is the most boring history class ever? US history could make Barbie kill herself. This coming from a giant history nerd.

Very true.

I'm taking AP European History my sophmore year only because it was offered for me to take by the history teacher that I currently had. Usually it is taken senior year.

Usually in our school sophmore year you study 20th century World History and Civics. Junior year everyone takes US History, however AP isn't offered at our school. Senior year you usually choose between AP European History and AP US Government and Politics or take no history.

I have to take AP US Gov senior year only because I have to fulfill the civics requirement to graduate.

I think I might want to take AP European History in my future sopmore schedule because it's harder and it might relieve some tension on my future Junior Schedule since it's easier.

APEH is more general and shows trends where APUSH can be more nitpicky and detail-oriented. (Focus on Europe vs. focus on the United States) So you should see more trends in APEH.

I wish I coulda taken APEH. I really enjoyed APUSH (and was extremely surprised that I got a 5 on the test; I expected a 3 or at best 4), but I basically wasted my sophomore year in Global Studies, the most retarded class ever. Starting next year, my school's offering AP Human Geography to sophomores instead of Global, but it's too late to help me. And there's no senior history; we get stuck with AP Gov or CIS Econ.

I wish my school had AP goverment, we only have American Goverment which is 1/2 a semester.

My school offers a choice of either AP World or AP Euro sophomore year and AP US History junior year. Senior year is a half-year of AP Economics and a half-year AP Government. You can take AP Euro as an elective even if you don't choose it sophomore year. You'd have to be crazy, though, because at my school Euro is VERY intense. There's also a Public Policy course you can take in place of either Government or Economics.

AP US and AP Euro are both for juniors and seniors here but Euro is mostly seniors. It's also ridiculously popular because there is a trip to Europe involved - the most interesting trip my school does. US is a good mix, and not too big. The only AP class I've ever heard of a soph taking was Psych (mostly, again, juniors and seniors). It's also impossible to take any AP science before junior year, as it is 8 periods a week including labs, and frosh and sophs have to take health classes during what would be their lab periods.
