Apllication status still not updated and it's been a while...review commitee has app.

Normalguy, if I recall correctly, is a transfer student and not an entering freshman. That's the difference.

Yes I am. Does that make a difference. They take priority to freshman apps before transfer?? That's ridiculous because I pay the same application fee as everyone else...

I believe the order they process applications in is:
1- Spring Semester 2008 freshman applications (obviously, they would be complete by now)
2- Spring Semester 2008 transfer applications (obviously also complete by now)
3- Fall Semester 2008 freshman applications
4- Fall Semester 2008 transfer applications

Since the Fall semester fresman and transfer candidates have until May 1st to accept/reject the acceptances, it may be a bit harsh to be too critical.

Many schools (for example, NYU and many of the Ivies) don't even send out their acceptances for the Fall Semester 2008 until after April 1st. To criticize IU for not having these out by January 15th therefore seems unrealistic.

Now, if you are criticizing them for not having gotten your Spring Semester acceptance/rejection to you--then that's another story.

Yeah, but incoming freshmen are the top priority. At least you're already at a college.

I wonder if they would get irritated if I called again...not sure what to ask though

Im also confused. I went to check my admission status and it said a final admission decision has been made and that's it. I thought if they made their decision they would notify you.

From what others have posted here, when you receive the "final admission decision has been made" notice on the online admission status check it is unfortunate news. You will receive notification in the mail also.

Sorry....

I've called many times, but want to call again. Maybe I can say, "I previously called and was told that I would hear something back within the first two weeks of January (honestly I was told I would hear back at the beginning of December but anyway) and my status still hasn't been updated. I just wanted to check up on things."
And if they say, "It is currently with the review comittee..."
I will say, "Really? Because I called in November and was told the same thing."

I just called. Now they need another transcript. They lied to me for 3 months that the review comittee had my app and everything was received. I'm almost tempted to just forget about it and look at other schools.

Sure enough, my status changed to say that I need to send in my last college transcript. I have already requested to have it sent, which should be done soon. Hopefully I won't have any more problems...

Well, this explains things. Hopefully you'll get your (positive) results soon.

Yea thanks. I figure it will be another 4-6 weeks so I'll just have to be patient.

Just an update in case anyone else is in this same situation. My transcript was officially sent about a week ago. IU told me that it may take 3-4 weeks for it to show in their system that they have it. Got a letter in the mail that said after they receive the last transcript it should be about 2 weeks. So it should be about 4-5 more weeks according to that but I'm guess up to 8 weeks until I receive an official decision. Nothing else I can do now but wait patiently like I've been doing for months already. A huge weight will be lifted off me when this is over with. I can only hope I'm accepted after all of this since IU is my #1 choice...

Alright then. Called again. They have received no transcript. It was sent about 2 weeks ago. She started giving me a spill about why it will take so long (envelope size, processing...). I just wanted to blurt out, "Well that's strange, because your telling me to call back in 2 MORE weeks because the process takes time and it's not because of IU, and Ohio State already processed mine yesterday and is evaluating it right now. Transcript was sent the same day. Don't use mail time as an excuse." So official word is to call back in 2 weeks. They said after the transcript actually appears in their system, it will be another 3-6 weeks until a decision is made. So it could be as long as April until I find out. Ridiculous. I sent in my app at the END OF OCTOBER! Is it going to take them a year to decide?!
Here is a quote from Student$Review.com referring to IU: "I advise against transferring. I was a transfer student and the entire process exhausted and bewildered me so much I was ready to give up..." Seems about right.

Yet another update. Called admissions office today. They have still not received a transcript from my college. She said it could take 10-14 days from when it was sent to appear in their system. Hmmm...not what I was told before! I had to call my college and have another transcript sent out. Also, there is not a waitlist for transfer students, only freshmen. Transfer students are only accepted or rejected. I'm so stressed. I wish I had never applied to Indiana...

I don't know what some of these people are saying, but from what happened to me, first your status will be updated, second you will receive an acceptance e-mail, and third you will get your acceptance package in the postal mail.

Right. But unfortunately my process with IU has not been that simple ;)

They just better decide by May 1st or I'm going to have to go with Ohio State (got accepted already). I feel that IU is the best school for me and that I deserve to go there but if I have to go to OSU instead then so be it...

I think I'm going nuts. I feel like I'll never find out. They can't offer me a reasonable explanation for what's going on, they tell me something different every time I call, and I've already waited over 3 months only to find out I may have to wait up to 3 more months! I just want an answer. Even if I got rejected, I would still be disappointed but relieved at the same time to know it's over. I mean, this is all I can ever think about. I check my application status about 15 times a day. The longer I wait the harder it gets. And since I had to send another transcript out, I am realizing that the entire process is starting over. It's like I want to go to IU even more since I got into OSU. It's a step better and I don't want to settle for anything less than Kelley. I guess I can expect more trouble sleeping at night and tons of stress for the next 3 months. I have no reason to believe they'll decide any sooner...

I think you need to try and relax a bit--especially since, like you said, it's going to be awhile yet. I'm guessing that if you got into Ohio State, then your Indiana application should be in good shape.

Since you got your Ohio State acceptance, you actually should be able to worry less and focus on other things more. Try to spend a bit more time on your studying and personal social life-and get your mind off this acceptance/rejection from Indiana. Your daily angst is going to ruin your life if you let it--and there's no reason to let it. Everybody's anxious about things--especially when those things will be affecting your life during the next two years. But there's being anxious, and then there's being obsessive--and being obsessive can affect your health.

Instead of worrying so much, start planning what you need to do in both cases--if you are accepted and if you aren't. What are you going to do about housing at each school?, what about moving?, what courses will you need to take next at both schools, and what will you take the second, third, and four semesters to meet all the graduation requirements? What clubs do you want to join? Are you going to try to get tickets to theatre events or to athletic events? Who do you know at each school that you might want to share your news with?

In any case, do things to make the time pass--then it won't seem so long--and you won't worry so much.

And good luck--I know it's not easy to be patient. As I actually wrote about myself on a different website, "it took me 10 years to learn to be patient, maybe in another 25 years I'll be good at it."

Thanks. Good advice. I have been researching a lot on Ohio State: Fisher Bus. & it seems like a decent program if Indiana doesn't work out, so I am starting to feel somewhat better...
