App receipt confirmation

Has anyone applied to Fordham and received a confirmation of app or portal login info? Son’s common app was sent in over a month ago. While some other stuff followed later, it seems odd that we’ve heard nothing. TIA.

Because it’s not rolling admission (and btw this is truly a guess) maybe they truly do not review until all the applicants are in by the Nov 1 deadline. And then they parcel out decisions well after Nov 1. Just a guess. I think it’s reasonable to call the admissions office and say you want to make sure nothing fell through the cracks. I’m sure your son has done this, but he should check his Spam folder too. In case something is in there.

This happens every year. Fordham gets 42,000 applications a year. They will notify you if something is missing.

On their site, Fordham says they are rolling admission, at least for the early action round. I sent my Fordham early action in recently as well and did not receive a portal either. Just an email acknowledging that i sent in my app

Just a question about financial aid at Fordham. I have both Jr and Sr sons. Older son was not interested in applying to east coast schools, but son #2 is. Fordham is high on his list, but we are concerned about financial aid. The Net Price Calculator was very unforgiving, and expects us to pay $44,000 w/ 2 kids in college. We are comfortable, but not wealthy. Husband is an engineer. Would any of you be willing to share your experience with financial or merit aid at Fordham? Thank you!

@morningside95 I will certainly be happy to when we find out that info, which should be in February. Honestly not expecting a lot. The NPC was also unforgiving for us and son didn’t receive any merit aid with his acceptance, although I’m told he could get something in Feb.

son is a sr at gabelli and was a recruited athlete in a very limited scholarship sport. we do well but have 3 kids in college. daughter recieved $15K merit scholarship when she applied (didnt attend) son recieved approx $5K in grant the first year but none since. was never given a reasonable explanation why it wasnt renewed. when circumstances changed, fordham was unwilling/unable to give us some help. from what i hear anecdotally, they are not generous to those who dont qualify for merit aid

@waytooinvolved That mirrors what we’ve heard. Honestly their vibe is so different from the other Jesuit schools, and not in a good way.

@CAMidwestMom @morningside95 Here is a breakdown of what I received. Note: My family appealed.

Metro grant (I’m a commuter) 6K for the whole year.
NYS Tap award (I’m a resident of NY).
Grant in Aid supplement- 4K for the whole year and was only good for the year
Pell Grant-about 1,600 for the whole year. Did not get it after Freshman year due to change in income.
Fordham grant in aid -8K for the whole year. is renewable.
Federal Direct subsidized loan- about 3K for the whole year.
Federal Direct unsubsidized loan- 2K for the whole year.

We didn’t get much initially, but my parents appealed and received the aid above. The FA department at LC was very good and tried to see what it could do to help. I love Fordham and wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.

Also, to be frank, all those estimations from the NPC and the FaFSA mean nothing in the end. My mom figured out that most of those estimates didn’t come close to the real numbers of what was offered and what my parents pay out each year. It’s better to just wait for the package to come and decide what you want to do from there.

@Reader13 Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing @Reader13! I went to a Jesuit school a million years ago, Loyola Marymount Univ. in LA, and loved it. They were generous with aid back then. I agree that Son #2 should go ahead and apply and just not get his heart set on Fordham, or any particular school. I’m going thru this with Son #1 now, as he awaits his college application decisions. If @CAMidwest Mom minds sharing her son’s experience, when he recv’s his award letter, that would be great. Is Fordham his first choice? I thought I saw something from you about U Santa Clara? I’m that other CA to Midwest transplant mom who made a comment to you last month. It’s snowing and 30 degrees here, and flooding the streets of LA back in CA, so there is no perfect place, right?!

Hi there, yes he is considering Santa Clara and got a great grant from them. We should hear from LMU later this month. I think he/we have zero expectations that Fordham will give him anything so it’s just fading into the background. He’s applied to quite a few Jesuit schools around the country and honestly all are doable except Fordham, barring some miraculous news in February. But I will check in for sure when we hear. Agree about the weather! We are finally getting snow this weekend. This has been a weird weather year for sure.

@morningside95 - My S is in pretty much the flipped circumstances as @CAMidwestMom’s S. Applied to Fordham and SCU, admitted to both, great grant from Fordham, very little from SCU. Thankfully, his heart wasn’t set on any specific place, and he still has three RD apps outstanding, so we’re on this ride 'til April at least, if not May 1.

As for the weather, there’s a lovely beach on the north side of Kauai where I’d happily spend the time between now and those RD notifications, and a final decision from S. I think my family and my employer would both take issue with that, though!

We are planning to come to Fordham for one of the Accepted Student days - anyone else?
