I agree…SURELY all is well. But it would (will!) still be nice to have some confirmation of that. I’m sure though, that is why they had to give the 9/21 deadline. LOTS of things to sort through in time to get back with kids for that October deadline. And it’s SUCH a huge school. But, it’s not their first time around the block, and Wells has been around for awhile. So they probably process ALL applications received by 9/21 BEFORE they process any others so they can make sure they catch all those applying. Best of luck.

yipee, his app finally shows up using one start… shows it was submitted 10/12 though!! oh well who knows if it was reviewed before 9/21 deadline but at least we know it is there now… i did try to call a specific counselor but no replies, i am sure they are inundated with applications. maybe he will still be considered for scholarship/hutton etc as we at least know it was logged in before nov 1

parent56…have you tried to e-mail? (Sorry if I missed your saying that). I’ve gotten some pretty quick responses from admissions (of course I was mostly making queries BEFORE the onslaught of applications began). At least to say “My child’s app. is showing it was not received until 10/12, but we made sure to send it by 9/21 because he was applying to Wells…should I have a concern that he wasn’t reviewed for that scholarship?” I will also tell you that I contacted them for their deadline to list them as “first choice” school to receive a National Merit scholarship. Whomever answered my e-mail basically referred me back to National Merit…saying IU didn’t have the deadline themselves…National Merit did.

But this isn’t true. And thankfully it was referred to someone else in the office who set me straight and did give me the deadline. So…not EVERYONE who answers you has all the answers. Could be a little scary if they say “yeah, don’t worry, you’re fine”…(about the date of receipt on your application)…and then maybe not be correct. Good luck.

Accepted w/ 2.6 GPA, 25 ACT, Bottom 50% (44th %ile), many AP’s

Wishwash that is very encouraging haha!
What was your SAT’s like?

yippee, website updated to congratulations today!!! now we wait for the email with (fingers crossed) info on ssa? which should come anytime now, and then a snail mail letter also? Just wondering, when people say you have 3 weeks to complete ssa, is that 3 weeks from email or from snail mail?

hmm went to onestart to see the notification and now it has a to do list of 4 things including complete the ssa, essay, rec letter etc, (but no actual link to these things) BUT shows these are due on 5/1/10. (thought it was 3 weeks?) Hope we get the email soon as now confused

found the ssa app, and it has the 5/1/10 date as the deadline also.

IMPORTANT: Your completed SSA must be submitted on or before 05/01/2010.

son sent brief note to ms baker to check actual deadline, but regardless will start on this asap

How long do responses take?
I submitted my application on October 24th :X

parent56–Congrats to your son.

sh1ppu–It’s been taking 2-3 weeks, BUT I would anticipate a longer turn around time now. The scholarship preference date is 11/1 and the colleges in state of Indiana recently had a week when applications were free for instate students. The combination of these two things in close proximity means IU has likely just received thousands of apps within a week or so.

thanks rrah. he’s excited. does that 5/1/10 date sound right to you? when everyone here says you have 3 weeks to submit. hopefully ms baker will reply next week. we wont get an email (havent ever got one from IU as his app was submitted paper not online) and sounds like the mail one may take 2 weeks.

parent56–the 5/1 date sounds wrong to me. D had about 3-4 weeks last year. Her recommendation letters had a slightly later deadline. It seems that there was some type of number or date on her acceptance letter that indicated the date the SSA was due. Did he get the mailed acceptance yet? The letter for Hutton did come a week or two after the letter from IU. I’ve just glanced at a folder of things I’ve kept from last year. I can, of course, find all the other colleges but not IU. I thought it might help me better remember the order of letters, etc. Given that 5/1 date I think it’s a matter of the system not being accurately updated. In general most items are due on 5/1 so it’s a general date for lots of items. Just have him get the letters, start the essay, etc… I did find her letter from Hutton about her scholarship. It was dated 3/2. One other bit of advice. If IU seems like a real possibility I would strongly recommend having him apply for housing asap. As I recall, all but $100 or so is refundable. Dorms are assigned by the date of the initial request. D’s request was sent in late November. She is living in her first choice now. I strongly recommend the Honors floors-especially Central for the location. It’s a good place to find other kids that are serious about academics but like to have fun. D’s been able to find a group of friends that don’t consider alcohol essential for a good time. That’s not to say there are not kids that drink on Honor’s floors, but the intense weekend party attitude is not quite as prevalent for most of the students there.

parent56:
I concur that date sounds wrong. That is the generic date by which one must accept IU’s offer of placement. Same date to turn in HHC card, and accept IU in general.

I didn’t track my D’s progress on her SSA application, but I DO know that it said only 30 days (somewhere…fairly hidden). But I don’t recall 30 days from WHICH. And, yes, her recs were due about 2 weeks after her deadline. Maybe just tell him to get busy and “git er done” anyway.

My Daughter DID get an e-mail to remind her that her SSA deadline was approaching (I grounded her…then found out it wasn’t REALLY due for about 10-14 days!).

I’m betting, since you’ve only seen the online congrats…that you do get a different date once you get the actual packet.

Good luck.

rah and r12, ms baker responded and said it was incorrect and had it fixed. apparently he is the not the only one it happened to but she was really glad he checked so she could fix it for all. but i think if there is a glitch to be found, my son’s app to IU seems to have found them LOL (i really am thinking it is the paper app rather than online)… ms baker was wonderful, quickly replied and quick to get it straightened out.
despite our glitches along the way, his admin rep ms miller and ms baker have been great.

i think he is also thinking seriously about the resident scholar for housing as it would reduce the cost and that has an essay too, so he has some work ahead.

parent56, I wouldn’t agonize over the residence scholars essay. Probably more important to just get it done and submitted quickly to get in line early for a room than to write a great essay.

bthomp…

I don’t think it’s a residence scholar essay, but rather the SSA essays that are in question. And there is a tight time limit (it goes by very quickly!). Another thing to parent56. Two recs are needed, so he can start lining those up now. That was a glitch for my daughter. Because she wanted to first ASK if they would do them, before listing them on the paperwork as her recommender. She already had two teachers lined up for her other apps, but THIS scholarship application asks for an academic rec AND a rec that can speak to…(I’m paraphrasing) the student’s leadership, activities, etc. So that MIGHT be someone different for your son (?). And, when the time came that D got a reminder “Um…your scholarship application is still not it” (with about 10 days left)…she was unable to reach the teacher for DAYS, and had to go ahead and send it in and cross her fingers he’d say yes. So that’s something he can work on. And, you did get the question to the larger essay, right? Something like…“speak to an issue that concerns you”. ?? I know my D felt she wanted to write on something that also related to her intended major. This one actually took NO time for her, whereas the Common App and TONS of supplemental questions took her MONTHS! Good luck.

thanks everyone, great advice

i submitted my online application long ago in august, but only mailed my stuff (transcripts, financial docs etc) on 26 october. but my application status still hasnt been updated, should i be worried?

^^^^No need to worry. IU won’t change your application status until after your transcripts, etc. are received. Keep in mind that given the 11/1 deadline for automatic scholarships IU likely received 1000’s of apps, etc. in the past 2 weeks. Anticipate a wait of 3-4 weeks or so.

Unless you’re an international student I’m not sure what financial documents you would have needed to submit.

yes im an intl student. i emailed all my documents together (transcripts, financial docs etc) and they should have reached by 31st october latest.
