I don't think I could have come across as angry. I was very pleasant and rather relaxed. I fealt he came across as arrogant when he talked about himself.

So what do you think caused him to press you for "details about the precise number of friends you had and the history of your relationships with women"?

I'm interested because I will be at a meeting with alumni interviewers and the Admissions Office people on Thursday night and if there are concerns about the process, I'd like to hear them.

Did you apply early to Harvard, or to any other school?

Byerly, you are such a hypocrite. You claim you don't bad-mouth other schools, but the tone of this post is clearly condescending ("apparently") and it's simply gratuitous.

You are quite mistaken. If someone had a bad interview experience, I want to hear about it.

Damn, I have to agree with the other posters on this one. There's no need to single someone out for a negative experience. Your tone is clearly condescending. You've been such a good source of information and admissions information, and I'm just disappointed that a friendly rivalry is so blown out of proportion.

He said he had a negative experience, and I asked him to provide more information about it. If someone has a negative experience in an interview, that is a matter of concern - to me and to the College.

Why don't you get out of the way and let the kid tell his story?

I sent you a PM. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you really care about my interview. Either way, don't even try to say your posts aren't ridiculously condescending and slanted.

I have seen it and replied to it.

I hafta agree with Byerly on this one. He's just trying to figure out the situation. (Quality control, takes pride in the Harvard interview team)

(However I must say that the fact that both parents are employed at Yale really puts angry at a disadvantage for Harvard, due to what that would be implied about angry's likelihood of attendance if accepted.)

-and also about condescending, he IS a harvard law alum talking to high school students. I wouldn't quite say we're peers.

I assumed Byerly was bashing my qualifications, of lack thereof. I guess he was pointing out that I didn't really want to attend Harvard. Though Byerly may be more achieved academically than the people on this board, he can try to keep his help a little more on the friendly side.

Yes--he is (as far as we know) a Harvard law alum hanging out in the Yale forum for the express purpose of condescending to high school students....Most impressive.

some people dont stick to one forum. whenever i look for posts i hit the "new posts" button. what have you done with ur life so far, ivyqueen?

You are quite mistaken, I am quite interested in helping people. Some days I get dozens of PMs, and do my best to respond to all questions relating to admissions matters.

Nothing much, An0nym0u5b :(: two degrees from Yale, two teenage children, and a 30-year career in the media business.

And Byerly--is this high-minded thread really the best place to boast of your altruism?

Unlike you, queenie, I'm not boasting about anything. I just answer the questions that come to me and express opinions occasionally on topics that interest me and about which I know a little something.

Kudos on your "two degrees from Yale, two teenage children, and a 30-year career in the media business."

oh aight ill shut up now. i assumed everyone else was an HS student.

damn cc always makes me feel like an idiot. i think ill stop arguing with people.

Thanks, Byerly. And kudos to you on Harvard's outstanding football team :).

you do injustice to Byerly,
he attended the UMich Law School, aka the "Harvard of Ann Arbor".

Byerly, I complained about my interviewer before I got a decision from Harvard. He asked some retarted questions and seemed really arrogant.

I'm also a Harvard interviewer. If you don't mind, I'd really like to hear what happened to you as well -- if there's a jerk out there being obnoxious to applicants, then the more fellow interviewers complaining about him, the better.

We havw a Greater Boston Area interviewers mtg with the staff tomorrow, and I plan to raise this topic.
