Appeal a Waitlist Rejection?

I got rejected from the waitlist at UNC Chapel Hill. A little surprised and frustrated at this. Is there any use in appealing the decision? Would they ever consider such an appeal, or would it be a waste of time. I know appealing a regular decision rejection is a thing, but what about waitlist rejection?

Thank you!

It’s time to move on. Unless somehow they were reading the wrong transcript, you have no hope. College decisions are final. I suppose UNC being a public uni, they must have some sort of ombudsman in cases of mistakes. But a judgment call to admit you or not through the waitlist? No way they’d allow it.

A rejection from the waitlist is pretty much final. My advice is to get excited about the college you are going to, and to focus on that.

However, transferring is an option. If you really want to try to transfer into UNC chapel hill, you should focus on getting good grades at the college you attend and strengthening your application. This website has the requirements for transfer admission: http://www.collegetransfer.net/UniversityOfNorthCarolinaAtChapelHill/TransferProfile/tabid/145/Default.aspx

It would be a waste of time and energy. You need to move on. Quite frankly once you were waitlisted at UNC it was time to embrace the school that you deposited at.

Yep, there’s certainly no chance now

They rejected you. You have to accept it. You should have started a month ago working through it, but now you really, really need to let go and focus on the College you’ll be attending in the fall.
You were already holding on in spite of reason (most students hear about their wait list status in May, a handful might in June if the school suffers from higher than expected summer melt, but by mid to late June all wait -listed students who haven’t heard, were rejected. Some colleges find that so obvious they don’t let you know you were turned down.)
Where are you going to college?
Why did you apply?
Have you joined the facebook group?
What classes will you be taking?
What about a roommate?

When you get that news at this point in the game, it’s generally because they are done with the waitlist. They are full up and even if they lose a handful of students, they’re not going to replace them.

You did everything possible by waiting it out to this point because yes, waitlists do move, sometimes into early July. Different schools close them at different points (generally based on when the schools who poach their students close theirs), and yours has done that.

Clearly, you’re disappointed but see it as a gift… you can now commit to the school where you enrolled without having to hold back for this possibility of a WL opening.

From the OP’s history, it seems he/she was a top grad (scores, GPA, course rigor) but didn’t apply widely enough to schools that offered merit money. Didn’t apply to UTAustin despite being eligible and is now searching for a good situation despite being an extremely strong applicant.

Might taking a year off, and then applying to schools that might better suit you and will reward you with merit money? (cf. Alabama)

Gap year is always a possibility for strong applicants who made the mistake of not applying widely enough. If OP has scores, GPA, and couse rigor, but no good college choice, then a gap year to apply to more targeted colleges is a alternative to attending CC or being “forced” into a college they don’t want to attend. High stats and freshman status are a previous commodity, especially for scholarships.

Right: I believe this describes the OP – very high achievement student but ended up w/ accepts at schools w/not enough merit scholarship.

Better off getting a great freer ride at other schools than to go into debt now. One year isn’t terrible a wait. I’m sure you can find great things to do this year. Just my 2 cents.
