Not too long ago, I received my student report for the ACT I took on June 8th. As I was reading over the breakdown of my score, there was one component that particularly jumped out at me: the fact that I received a score of 6/12 on the essay. The comments on my essay were "Your essay used some specific details, reasons, and examples, but it needed more of them." I was baffled by this because writing is one of my strengths when it comes to standardized testing (12/12 on the SAT essay). I was expecting a thorough explanation to justify the 6/12. As this was not the case, I decided to investigate by looking at sample ACT essays on the ACT website. The first essay I looked at, which received a score of 3/6, was poorly written and I believe my essay was much better.

So my question is: Do the comments fit the score I received and if not do I have grounds for an effective appeal? I appreciate any comments or advice. Thank you.
