we are trying to appeal a financial aid package awarded to our dauhgter from a well known college in Boston and I could really use some help in knowing the key points our EFC is 0 but even with that we are still expected to pay $20,000 and I am not sure they totally understand our situation so we can submit a special circumstances appeal but I want to make sure we write what they want to know they did not give any guide lines

Is this an in-state public school? Is this an OOS public school? Is this a private school? Which school is this?

Are your D’s stats high for the school (like well within the top 25% of the school’s stats)? What are your D’s stats (GPA and SAT breakdown)?

Does this school have a big endowment?

All of the above will be a factor in what to say and whether more aid is even available.

I noticed your only other post is on the India forum. Are you an international? If so you need to check the college website and find out of the college meets financial need for international students. The vast majority of colleges do not. Before you try to determine what is needed for an appeal, ensure that the college you are talking about will meet need. The colleges determine what constitutes financial need so you will have to discuss what the circumstances are causing you to need more financial aid. Examples might be very high medical bills, family emergencies…items impacting finances that are not part of the financial aid papers you have already submitted.

The OP may be an int’l…but she has an EFC…which doesn’t sound like an int’l. Perhaps the student is a citizen living abroad.
