Appeal: Must First Talk to Admissions Officer?

On the UCSD appeals website it says that all those who are attempting to appeal must talk to an admissions officer about it first before a letter is even written and that all appeals which skip this step will not be considered... Think this is true? I think they're just trying to weed out some bs appeals by saying that...I doubt its neccessary/true. Anyone know? Or appealed without this step?

Uh this is true. I've called them like four times already. Every time you call and go over your application, the admission officer makes notes on it. So the fourth time i called them, the person knew exactly my situation and obviously highly discouraged me to appeal since THEY DON'T LIKE APPEALS. But apparently my teachers and everyone else told me to appeal, so i went ahead and did it. Also the fourth time, the admission officer was a total jerk. She didn't want to tell me how many points i earned because it is "confidential". But the other 3 times i called they gladly went over everything. So i highly encourage you to call several times because some of them are just jerks.

Well I called and everything and they told me my points but discouraged me to appeal...I went ahead a and did it anyways. Was some type of approval thing required to be included in the letter or wat?

Were you considerably close? I was less than 100 Points away from being admitted, only reason I've appealed.

I was around 300 pts away...not nearly as close as you but I just thought I had nothing to really lose in appealing.
