Hi, I was waitlisted about a week ago and I am considering appealing but have a few questions.
Will the appeal affect my spot on the waitlist (can I appeal & waitlist or do I have to pick betw/ the 2?). And it claims that an appeal needs new and compelling evidence. Does this only include EC’s that I forgot or can I also elaborate on more personal details (loss of family member, parents divorce, etc.) Also, on the appeal page it asks for a brief summary of the new evidence limited to only 300 words. Is this the appeal that I write or is it just a brief overview of my appeal?
Thank you!!
So I believe that 300 word appeal is your actual appeal. (It is similar to Berkeley’s expect their’s is 500 words).
And it should tell you that if you were waitlisted whether or not you can still appeal. I’m pretty sure if they gave you a link to the appeal page, you can appeal even though you were waitlisted. But I’m not 100% sure, so you might want to check their website for it!
So if you CAN appeal, first you want to try and identify why you got waitlisted/rejected. Bad grades, didn’t do so well on your short essays? etc. New information can be the loss of a family member or parents divorce! You just have to explain how that affected your grades/short essays. And explain how you will be more prepared If some tragic happens or how UC Irvine can help you improve yourself.
If you are still not sure on why you were waitlisted/rejected (PSA: Being waitlisted means you are qualified to be there you were just chosen when they met their capacity of applicants!) Anyways back to what I was saying, if you are not sure or if you were waitlisted you might want to include any struggles you have right now, and how Irvine can help you if you were to be admitted. This is sort of risky because if not done properly, it could sound like you’re whining and you want them to feel sorry for you. So for example, if you live near Irvine you can state how if being accepted you are able to save tons of money and commute to school while still getting a great education. Or include how some programs/ organizations Irvine offers, really interest you and can have a positive impact in your life.
So just type your appeal in that 300 word box and when you revised and check for errors just submit and wait.
TRY TO DO IT ASAP BECUASE THEY MIGHT TELL YOU BEFORE MAY 1ST WHICH IS THE DEADLINE FOR YOU TO HAVE TO COMMIT TO A SCHOOL
@xtfgg I’m not really sure if the 300 word limit is the actual appeal since below it lies an option to upload your appeal? (Along with uploading your current senior grades and other convincing documents). I looked up some appeal examples online and they alll seem to pass the 300 word limit also. It says on the UC site that you can appeal to UCI while on waitlist but I just wanted to make sure bc I don’t want to have to give up waitlist to appeal. Btw they didn’t give me the link to appeal on my portal I just searched it up myself and found it. I’m planning to write my personal circumstances about why my grades weren’t that good back in soph year (3.6 to 4.3 now in senior) but I feel like 300 words may not be enough!?
Did your appeal work? Or do you find out later?
@xtfgg I haven’t heard anything. I don’t expect a reply yet since I submitted mine a day before deadline (oops) but I’m hoping waitlists come out soon!! :(( what about you?
