rejected again

they give you no idea why they reject you…so how on earth can you make a strong appeal
daughter is heart broken oh well FSU offering her honors and nice scholarship

^^^hb, UF.s weighted GPA uses only core courses, and the most weight a class can have on the UF scale is a 5.0. And since it is difficult to take AP classes for freshman core courses, the high end of UF.s weighted GPA is about a 4.5. With an unweighted GPA of 3.6, the best UF calculated GPA would be a 3.9, and that stands out. I think your HS weights using an unusual formula, and that gives students a false idea of their weighted GPA. Your guidance department needs to help kids recalculate their UF GPA so they have a better idea of how they are stacking up to other applicants.

The other problem is that UF looks mostly at the top 10% of any given HS class. Your D’s scores were good, and her EC’s were good, but her class standing may have immediately taken her out of the running. This is based on the posts here on CC and analyzing who got in and who didn’t and what goes on. I think that 10% deal is more important this year for some reason.

Your D sounds like this is UF’s loss. I am so sorry, especially since you have one D there already. Your D will fall in love with FSU.

@ hbdaughter,
they should be able to tell your daughter why, if she ask them. if they cannot come with any reasons if nothing was against her, then they might say, could have been because of budget cuts and the numerous of qualified students who applied (the ordinary excuse).

Yep, rejected again. I will be attending the University of North FL, Honors. I am elated about it, Jacksonville is GREAT. My identical twin sister however, (with lower/less credentials) is going to UF. Its quite sad.

And this was just off the top of my head.

I swear their process of picking and choosing is pressing a key on the computer and randomly selecting. I know swimmers with 2.8s that are going–paid for. Sure, they offer talent blah blah blah but IS THAT FAIR? nope.

haveheart,
I just want to say one thing to you: it really is not right for you to call anybody’s situation “pulling the sympathy card” when you know nothing of what anyone else went through. Do you know the difficulties of going through an illness and how it can impact your school work? I’ll tell you what, I don’t. But these situations have real impacts on peoples lives, and make high school a completely different world than for someone like you or me. Colleges recognize that some students may have to face truly compelling, unique challenges during high school and asks them to put them in writing so they can review them. There’s no reason to call it pulling the sympathy card. None at all.

Quick question: I go to a title 1 school where many of my classmates got admitted to uf with 4.s and 1050-1150. I didnt appply because i thought i wouldnt get in. But after hearing all this news, i think i could have been a gator.
What do you think? 1200sat; 3.7uf gpa; top 5% status; over 6 ap classes; chess champion

I would say if your UF GPA was 4.0 or better, you would have had a shot. They weigh the GPA higher than the test scores and 4.0 seems to be a magic number they look for.

Thanks for your input but I did not mean to offend anyone, as I stated. Of course, I do not walk in other peoples shoes so I do not know what theyve gone through. But I do know what Ive gone through. I went through trials and tribulations that effected my grades during HS, including illness and hospitalization. My not pulling the sympathy card is a way to own up to my actions. Sure, you cant control many things but you cant BLAME certain situations either.

Again, Im not pointing fingers at people. But, why feed the admissions council what they hear in every letter? Ya know? I mean, as you can see my appeal didnt get approved, but I still believe in my own views.
