What is the best way to appeal for financial aid? Could I lose money when I appeal? Is it likely that I would get more money?

I sent an email to the financial aid office but they wouldn’t give me anymore unless extenuating circumstances came up.

If Syracuse is your first choice school and your package is absolutely not enough to go there, I would suggest that you call the Financial Aid office directly and let them know that.

My son had his heart set on going to Syracuse for Civil Engineering, but the aid package offered by Syracuse was not enough to go there in light of the fact that he has a sister who will also be a freshman (OOS at the University of New Hampshire) next year. We are older parents and just can’t afford any parent loans. I called the Financial Aid Office to explain out situation and he was offered slightly more grant money. I emphasized that SU is his first choice. Somehow we are going to make it work with us co-signing some private student loans.

Good luck. Financing a college education is not easy.

pfips123: Hi and just like Joeldor I wrote a letter explaining our circumstances and an email to our Financial Aid counselor. Our EFC=0 and my d’s financial aid package was great but it wasn’t enough, and I couldn’t afford what they were suggesting we contribute. I have a son with special needs and a mother with no child support nor government support. On our own and the only legacy for my daughter was her education that she worked hard to earn outstanding grades.

Syracuse was wonderful and kind and they helped me. She received a better financial aid, and she is working on scholarships and grants that will help more. She will attend Syracuse with the Almighty’s and Syracuse’s help.’
I read some bad things regarding syracuse, but I can’t say the same. Thank God they are helping my daughter succeed in her education.
