I appealed to Davis! The submission was due not to long ago and I already received an acceptance! I’m studying managerial economics! One of my letters of rec was written from an actual admissions officer! My statement was impressive and I included more volunteer work and a couple of awards.
I would like to thank everyone on College confidential who gave me some great advice such as:Gumbymom ,socalmom007, NcalRent, dianeuh96 and AMCdad!
I am beyond excited. I would like to encourage other students that an appeal is worth it, if it’s your dream school.
CONGRATS!!! may i ask, did you also have extenuating circumstances or any other special situations going on or did you just write about the volunteer work, awards, and rec letters?
I wouldn’t say I had extremely excruciating circumstances; however, I did mention I couldn’t leave home at a time like this. I am the first in my family to graduate high school and attend college.
As the oldest I felt like I had a responsibility to help my parents out with doctors appointments , and other important affairs (I serve as a translator for them). I also explained i have 3 younger siblings to guide and help (in hwk and other school aspects)
Thank you. 3.78 weighted gpa. Took 8 ap. 1110 sat. Tons of exc. I do believe the letter from the admissions officer helped alot. Networking definitely helps!
My stats might not be overachieving but I did not have the advantage many other students had like college educated parents, tutoring etc. (My parents have an elementary math education, they couldn’t help me when I struggled with calculus).
I know some students live under similar circumstances and still manage to enroll in ivy leagues.
Awesome! Are you a junior? I believe my appeal was very successful because of my connections, so If you have clubs in your school that are associated with UCDavis I recommend you join. But I’m sure you’ll get in on your first try!
Hey @lenky0 I too am planning on appealing to Davis. I have similar stats as you and am also a first generations student. Do you have any advice for me? How did you go about writing your letter?
@OP, you rock! And don’t think for a second your stats are one bit less than very solid. You’re already a very accomplished young person and you will succeed in life.
