Appealing to FGCU

Hello everyone,

So I was denied admission to FGCU back in March. I had the GPA for a 2.7 and an ACT of 21. I was in their range for acceptance. As soon as I got denied I called them to see what went wrong. I never got a hold of my admission counselor however I did get a hold of a representative. I found out about the appeal process from the woman and sent an email to my counselor. (Never received an email back and left messages to get more info). Finally I got a hold of the President of Admissions. Now before I go any further I would like to share my situation:

I suffer from Anxiety and am currently on medications. My first two years of high school were rough and I made out with a 2.5 for each year. Anxiety was affecting me and held me back. I started the medications and my grades sky rocketed. I am not a Senior with a 3.5 and I have been on the honor roll twice so far.

In my appeal letter I explain my struggle with my disability and I talked to the President about what I can do about it. He sent me a disability form that I could see if I would classify under any of them and I do.

I sent in the following for my appeal: A personal letter explaining my academic short comes and my struggle with anxiety, two teacher recommendation letters, and my letter from my doctor regarding my medication.

My question is: Will this provide them with an idea of what I’ve dealt with and what I am capable of?

I have a back up college if this doesn’t work I just want some idea of what my situation looks like in terms of appealing.

Thank you all!

You might retake the ACT and see if you can bring it up.

If all else fails, you can get an AA from a community college and then transfer. This would have the advantage of making it easier to get into one of the other Florida schools as well, in case you ever decide to go somewhere else.

So my appeal case was looked at on Tuesday and GOOD NEWS! It went through. I was accepted into FGCU and I’m extremely happy! It goes to show that an appeal can work, you just need to go for it!
