appeals

anyone appealing?

You can't appeal a college's decision.

yes you can but i don't think you can do it at cornell

Ok. I had tried to appeal, and already sent in a letter about my latest awards and tremendous passion. But what I got from them was ".... Sorry, we don't have an appeal process. If you truly set your mind on Cornell, I'd be happy to discuss with you about the transfer opton later on......"

So I would advise you giving up this thought. Everything is set; you can't change it.

even for the hotel school?

Throw in the towel. Decide on a college that you've been accepted to, and make the most of it.

yea, I can say it firmly! no appeal process for any colleges!

for any colleges at cornell no appeals, but other schools u can appeal

oh, yea! thanks for the clarification.

i called and they said send in a written appeal request

you mean cornell or other universities?

for cornell. just wondering if other ppl appealed as well

oh, really? But I asked the admission counselor by email, and she told me that. Maybe she lied? Anyway, I have sent in the letter, and it never hurts to try.

well i guess it depends on which college it is.

even when you appeal, im pretty sure ur not allowed to update a school with new information, but must prove to them there was a mistake (wrong transcript sent or somthign along those lines) or that they missed information AT THE TIME YOU SUBMITTED UR APP. i could be wrong thou

no, that's not all an appeal is. it is u make`a push or statement why u should be accepted in a formal letter. u could be accepted after all the watlisters r accepted if there is space

I think the only reason they'd ever overturn a decision is if they misread your app . . . like if they missed an award on the national level or something
I know that's the case with JHU's appeal system, they rarely overturn a decision and when they do, it's because they missed something important, not because they changed their mind about the applicant.

no that's included also, i saw a documentary on the uc schools admission process and people have appealed admissions decisions

Well the UC schools don't have waitlists, so the spots leftover go to kids who appeal. (I think?)

The point of an appeal is to show what you've been doing SINCE you applied, and how you're focused on getting in. Not a mistake on a transcript. A mistake should be brought to their attention during the review (if you realize it), and an appeal is just taht - you appeal your case, and make a better one. At some schools, I don't know about Cornell, it's highly effective for students who really try. An appeal could include another recommendation, a list of current activities, an essay on why they should reconsider, ect.
