I'm interested in buying a desktop and I really want an Apple! I might splurge a little and consider the iMac because the mini doesn't come with a monitor, and they're expensive. I'm also interested in the Ipad Mini for when I need to go to seated classes. I have two questions, one I know there is a deal for college students I want to take advantage of it but have no idea how it works, and how do I make sure I get it? I'm looking at the basic model 21.5-inch: 1.4GHz. How is the processor on the thing?

Apple has discounts for student and educators year-round on many of their products, and the special back-to-school promotion usually runs from late June through early September. I would hold off on making your purchases until it has been launched. The promotions and terms vary a bit every year. Typically you get the normal student discount plus a rebate for another item. When I was in middle school you could get a free iPod with your laptop but in recent years they’ve given a rebate for software instead. I believe last year’s promotion was for a $100 to spend at the App store, plus the discounts from the computer.

You can check the education pricing here: <a href=“Education Pricing and Student Discounts - Education - Apple”>http://store.apple.com/us-hed/browse/campaigns/education_pricing

To qualify for the discount you typically just need to show your student ID at the store. Lots of colleges sell the computers and software in their bookstores at the discounted price. If there isn’t an Apple store near you and it isn’t sold at your campus bookstore, you can make the purchase online or over the phone and you will just provide the name of the school but won’t have to show your student ID. This is what my cousin did because the nearest Apple store to her is like 2 hours away and she wanted to buy her laptop before returning to campus. Shipping was free.

I’d look on CNET and other trustworthy sites for reviews of the computer.

I just read a post about Macs being really good for Technicians and Engineers. Just makes me more tempted to buy one. lol I’m going to wait for a while, I know the other computer deals aren’t out yet for students. Thank you, I think we have one in Raleigh but it’s like 45 minutes away. And I’m not sure if we have apple computers at our bookstore. I will have to ask next time I get a chance to go. Thanks for your reply.

Oh yes I have another question, I know that Apple does offer some kind of bundle deal but I know it’s different then most PCs. What if I wanted the cell phone too? I do plan on getting one soon.

Thanks, but it’s still quite expensive, and if I’m going to spend that much money, I might as well buy new. lol Sorry for the late reply.
