I know that Apple reportedly has had "back-to-school" sales for Macs that include offers for rebates that essentially mean you can get free iPod and Printer, along with your student discount. Has anyone had success with this deal in the past, and does anyone know if Apple plans on doing this again this year? If so, around what time will they offer it?

they do it every year.

last year they gave away a nano or $199 towards a more expensive ipod.

coupled with $100 off education bonus and printer.

rumor has it this year's will be better.

june 3rd is the day(rumor)

AHHHH!!! I completely forgot about the student discount. I just bought a new MacBook last week!

is that really true??? i have been saving all my babysitting money for a laptop when i (hopefully) go to boarding school!!! it would be a total break to actually have some money left over for prep school!!!

omg jonathan i forgot too!!!! i bought a new macbook last month!

Hmmm... I though the discount was for college students

no. it's for high school students too. not directly from the education store though. go to the apple store website and scroll down until you see a link for "graduating soon?" click on that and then sign in for whatever school you'll be attending next year.

Anyone know where the discount is? I followed Alyria's directions....or is it not there yet?

if you get to the webpage after you enter in your school, then all the computers should appear $200 less.

It doesn't appear that the big summer promotion is there. Last year, you got a macbook, free printer and $200 off an ipod. Right now, if you type in Promos in the search button, Apple is offering the free printer, but I didn't see the Ipod offer. There is an education offer, but it appears to be limited to college students and the discount isn't much: $999 for a mac compared to $1099 normally.

Last fall, Apple introduced a new OS for Macs and new ipods. The education deals the previous summer were for the soon-to-be old versions. Given how well apple is doing, lack of love for vista, and Dell's delivery nightmares, they might not need to do any more promos to make lots of sales.

tomatoking's rumor is true! Effective today, free nano or i-pod touch with computer purchase!

I think it is a little better than last year's--you now receive up to $299 for a free ipod. Last year, I believe it was only up to $200. Also, don't forget, you can also take advantage of the other promo Apple offers: *Purchase an Apple computer and a qualifying printer between April 22, 2008, and July 21, 2008, and receive a rebate up to $100. *. So, you can get a free ipod and printer, plus the macbook is reduced to $999 (compared to $1099) :D

That is a great deal.
I would make sure your school supports Macs first though. I know most do, but I also know that some do not.
Some do, in fact require you to buy the computer through their vendor in order to be supported by ANY on campus technical support. Some have limited MAC support, some limited PC support. I'd recommend checking with the technology dept at your school before you order anything just to be sure.

I got all excited about this because I was thinking about getting a new MacBook next year but I just found out that the school i'm probably going to end up going to requires use of tablet PC's. :(

Question about laptops- Should I get it with Glossy or Regular display? It's for boarding school stuff (work, web, occasional movies/games)

Glossy or regular? Whichever you prefer. I guess. Nobody will care but you.

that is such a good deal!
i am so ready to get rid of my stone age ipod mini!

If it is educational price and if you buy through school, even tax is exmepted.

There are several credible rumors floating around about a MacBook redesign. I would recommend waiting to purchase your MacBook until after WWDC. But if you can't wait then whatever.
