Applicants Fall 2008

This thread is for prospective students to just talk and discuss any information about applications or applying for next fall. Sidenote *If you don’t like byu go chill in another board. What are you doing here anyway? If you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all.

does anyone know when the application start?

October 15th is when the applications will be online.

does anyone know what the essay is? will it just be pretty general and we can write about almost anything, or is it more specific?

The essay is really general, basically just what sets you apart from other applicants

i was having the recommendations done by the respective leaders, and it seems that we have to confirm all or most of these recommendations with the Institute before sending them off to CES (the stake president in my area told me this). Since I've never been to institute, I thought that was kinda strange. I'm a high school student so i've only done seminary. I don't know if this is done only in Korea or it's supposed to be like that everywhere else.. anyone have a clue? how are you guys getting it done?

That's really weird we don't do that here in the states.

hahaha it's all good now. things have been taken care of. thanks

I just got accepted to BYU and the U of U

how do you know? i didn't know results can come out so early...
i've met the priority deadline but i still haven't gotten a reply. how did you get one so early?

I put mine in the day after thanksgiving. And two weeks later I got a response. I was a lot faster than I expected. But i've also got excellent recommendations from my stake and bishop, and I'm valedictorian with a 32 ACT so I wasn't exactly a borderline candidate. I think that might have had something to do with the speed but maybe not. I have a friend with scores close to mine and similar reccs but she hasn't gotten a response. And another friend turned all her stuff in right away and she knew in mid november.

I applied to BYU, although I am still awaiting my early application to the Wharton School of Business in UPenn. Obviously, I hope that I get into Wharton, but I also wish to attend BYU.

that's awesome man. are you applying to any special programs? like the huntsman program or the jerome fisher program? i mean, with your stats, you're all for it.

I GOT INTO WHARTON! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA My parents are so happy for me :D Too bad I can't go to BYU then I guess...

I would just like to say that if you have not received a response within three weeks of completing your application, I would go online and MAKE SURE that BYU has received ALL of your application materials. I work in the admissions office and we often have students who think they have all of their stuff turned in, but really the bishop or their counselor or their seminary teacher forgot to send in their part or it got lost in the mail. Make sure your status page shows a received date for all parts of your application.

i got admitted to byu. see you guys in august! :)

Congrats, I was waitlisted. I also got waitlisted by minnesota. I might end up going to Michigan State.

Only time will tell

thanks smash
from what i look at it, any school is worth it - no matter the supposed "reputation" or name value of the school; as long as you do your best in whatever situation you're given. MSU is a great school, you're a great student, you've got great opportunities.

hope for the best (:

Yea well im out of state for michigan state so going there isn't very afforadable. It's definitely my #1 school but the cost is just ehhh.

Congrats to those who have gotten in so far. Anyone know when we get more information? Like class schedules and stuff?
