Applicants in your area

So the people who are applying from my area are scaring me. It seems that for the most part, everyone got deferred from their early schools, and all of them are applying to Princeton now (it's more of a mass rush to all top schools, but I notice the ones that target Princeton).

And the ones who were accepted early, were in SCEA, usually Harvard or Stanford, and they're not phased or discouraged from applying everywhere else (ahem again, here).

It's quite depressing to a deferred applicant. I think my only chance was in the early round and it's totally gone now.

e.g. (major points)

Applicant 1
- #2 in class at neighboring school, used to be #1
- state level swimming champion
- other things that I don't know about

Applicant 2
- #1 at neighboring school
- president of every possible club and the entire class
- varsity basketball (i think captain of that)
- Harvard early acceptee

Applicant 3
- invited BY PRINCETON to visit with a FREE PLANE TICKET
- amazingly smart/genius/korean
- violin supp.
- probably math competitions nationally

Applicant 4
- #1 at my school
- officer of... not every, but many clubs, class officer
- some NYLF/GYLC/more letters thing
- piano supp.
- Stanford early acceptee

Applicant 5
- Drum Major in band, much time involved
- impossibly fast runner in track, probably will get recruited
- URM

Applicant 6
- perfect scores in everything
- medical research
- mother Oxford alum, I dunno, probably doesn't matter that much

Applicant 7
- band, which takes much time
- uh, I dunno

Applicant 8
- rank #6 or 7 at my school
- varsity swimmer + many awards and records set
- nicest person ever --> great recs

Assume amazing or near perfect scores in each case.
Those are just the major (scariest) people. There are tons of other people that I just haven't heard about or have forgotten. I'll start making plans for state school now.

I just felt masochistic. If anyone wishes to share/commiserate, feel free.

profile yourself in three bullets...how do you look?

People like those **** me off. They've been accepted to top 10 schools, yet it's not enough. Someone needs to slap them. They probably aren't loved or something.

hah yea taking away someone's free ride... but sometimes some applicants apply more just because they might get more financial aid from that school... eh i wish they could fix the system better so they won't have to.

snowdancer - Lol, I'm afraid my three look more like rubber bands than bullets (harhar).
- #2 rank, which will go down even though GPA goes up, it's a screwed up system, yes
- medical research at BCM, but no papers or anything
- regional/state/national level awards for a couple of ECs/clubs

Piano, but didn't send in a CD, not like there is a dearth of Chinese pianists anyway. No sports and ORM. I'm pretty sure I have higher standardized scores than the #1 guy at my school, but that wouldn't matter too much.

runningncircles - The only thing I'm hoping for (I'm evil, I know) - my interviewer has a huge loathing (well, maybe not that deep) for kids accepted early at (cough Harvard) schools and want to apply to other top colleges to build up a "bragging list". And he's the main interviewer for my area :)

getalife - Yes, that is an understandable reason for doing so. But my suburban area is pretty well off... eh.

Machiavelli, as good as the other people are, the fact that you applied early gives you a boost. Princeton knows that you were interested in it as your first choice (as you applied there ED). They can guess that the other people might have applied to other schools early, and may not be as interested as you are.
