Application after University Dismissal

Hey Guys,

I just received the news that I have been dismissed from my University, I am attending John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. They are known for their accreditation issue sent by the higher learning commission. I am an International Student holding an F-1 Visa right now and I just finished my first semester of my sophomore year. This happened mainly to depression as my close friend committed suicide and it has affected me for a long time. I feel stupid for not asking for help and holding the burden to my self.

I have talked to other people and the dean and what they told me is to go to a CC, however, if I am going to a CC I will not be applying back to my current University. Being the first in the family to attend College in the US, is it possible that I apply to a CC and transfer to another school?

Also, when applying to a CC, do I apply as a transfer for are there any special admission requirements?

Thank you for your help guys.

You don’t really have to “apply” to a CC in the traditional sense. You have to create an account, and probably do an english/math placement test. It might take a couple weeks for your stuff to go through, and sometimes they ask you to meet with a counselor to create an educational plan. You can definitely transfer from CC to a 4 year university, lots of people do it. Some CCs have matriculation agreements with 4 year universities so you get guaranteed (or nearly guaranteed) admission as long as you get a certain GPA.
