They send decision letters by postal service on december 15. If you live in California,
you will get it next day, if you live in Midwest, you will get it 10 days later.

^^^CRAPPP!!!!! BY MAIL?!??!!??!?!??!?!
Wahhh!! I live in Connecticut, which means I won't know until near the end of december!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why won't they email like everybody else?

I think if you look back in the archives you will find that the acceptances, which are sent 1st class, generally get to the rest of the US in 2-3 days.

geeeeeez :/ i hate waiting
i know im rejected or at the best deferred i wish they would just call us or something
:(

does anyone know what the different mail packages look like? (rejected, deferred, accepted)

The accepted package was a large envelope - silver and orange. It was a thing of beauty! I think deferred/rejected just get regular envelopes.

ohh geez a little over 11 days left!! :/
im hoping for that orange and silver PLEASE lol
we should start an EA thread

lol. go ahead and do it stueydue..on dec. 15? lol. meh. I'm hoping for that orange and silver too!!!!!!!! gahhhhhh!!!!!!

When my son's big orange and silver envelope arrived, I told him he got a large envelope from somewhere so the news was probably good. He guessed every other school he had not yet heard from except Caltech. He was quite shocked. It is a large envelope which surprisingly does not have a lot in it, most of the bulk being some folder they stuck in it with not a lot of info to start with. Good luck to everyone nervously awaiting their mail.

Yeah, it wasn't much....but I still keep that folder :)

Yes, if you're accepted they send you a large orange and silver envelope. If you're deferred or rejected, they send you a regular one. It's pretty obvious if you got in once that day comes.

Until then, just relax and enjoy yourselves. No point worrying about something you can't control.

I have a weird situation. So I thought I applied RD bc i wanted to take SAT IIs in November, which I did. Caltech sent me an email 11/19 saying we are missing items from your application for EA, and so I emailed back saying SAT scores are going to be sent tmrw (11/20). But they have never sent me an application complete email back. What does this mean? Will be under EA or RD? Should I just call?

go to your common app online and look at the future plans area for caltech. this should show you the button you chose (EA or RD). If it says RD and caltech thinks you are applying EA, I would probably call them to get rid of any confusion.

It says RD. I'm so confused. and theyre not open on weekends. I really really hope they put me EA... I would hate to have to wait another 4 months when they got my hopes up :(

Considering they will be sending out EA decisions very soon (meaning they have read the applications and are in decision making mode), you'll probably be in the regular decision category, since a) you applied RD and b) your SAT scores are too late to be considered for EA.

EDIT: see here:

They are already done with decisions it seems.

Caltech: Mailing Date!

Thought so. I just found it weird that they would do that. but they are human and make mistakes too. man...
