D already e-mailed Bowdoin earlier this evening but I am curious if anyone else encountered the same problem. Plus airing this on CC may help others.

Anyhow, D submitted on 12/3. The application was downloaded on 12/4. Bowdoin has never confirmed that the application was received. Nor have we received anything like the other schools, to which D has applied, like website access to the application status.

I got a confirmation emaill, the standard thank you for applying and payment confirmation, a couple days after I submitted my app....i think it was like 3 days for the payment....Im not sure why it has taken so long.

I am talking about the confirmation from Bowdoin. Out of the 10 schools D has applied to, 8 have all sent a confirmation and info for a link to track your status. The 9th sent a postcard to acknowledge the application but nothing about a link (we are checking on that also). So Bowdoin is the only one that has not provided any form of receipt - e-mail or other. Hopefully, D will receive input from her AC today.

Hmm, I applied RD a couple of weeks ago and got an email from Bowdoin admissions both to confirm the acceptance of my Common App and then again upon receipt of my online payment. Weird that you haven't heard anything from them, the emails for me came right away after I sent it in, as in a day or so later. Hope your daughter gets this cleared up!

D heard back from her AC today. She was very nice and informative about the process. The AC confirmed that the application was received and, should they need anything further, they would contact D. She also stated that the confirmation goes out a few days after the application is submitted to the e-mail indicated on the application. I did confirm on common ap that the e-mail was correct.

I am speculating that the problem was on our end. We are going to need to be attentive to D's e-mails to make sure no further mistakes happen.

She also did mention that Bowdoin does not have a "check application website" (or decision status) at this time.

Thanks for all your input and I hope these details help any others who are wondering. Again, Bowdoin was very nice about responding to the concerns.

well, we did not spot anything in the spam folder but in what way did we miss it. So, yes we will watch the spam folder more carefully and maybe just something happened on our end because of the sheer volume of college e-mail (solicited and un-solicited) this fall.

i would say wait a bit....the admissions office is most likely swamped right now with probably around 6000 applications of something
give it a week or two is what i would do

I'm waiting for a confirmation as well. I submitted my "complete" app on 12/29/2008. So, its been a week now. I guess I'll wait for another week...

Note that in the e-mail from D's AC, she referred to an e-mail confirmation goes out in a few days. If you did not provide an e-mail and are expecting a confirmation by postal services, I have no idea what the time line would be. I would give it a little time as I am sure that they go deluged with applications those last few days.

I also included the line that "please confirm me via mail xxx" in my application checklist . Still, i will wait for them till the end of this week.

icandoit - Was your mail sent from inside the US? Also, I am confused about a point. You stated "the packet went to bowdoin 3 days ago". You wrote that yesterday. That would not only be a Sunday (no mail) and well past the due date on Jan 1. What am I misunderstanding about your post?

D got an e-mail that the Common App and payment was received, but the materials the school sends (transcript and recs) were not, so she is checking with the GC today. She got that request in way before the holiday break, so things will not be so happy if the school is that far behind...

I also got confirmation that the Common Applicaton and my fee waiver request were received but no info if another materials arrived or not. And I am really upset since there is no checking system.

I think that we are all spoiled these days. Four years ago when my son applied to colleges, I was excited that most of the schools gave NOTIFICATION accessibility through the computer. There was no application status at all. And in fact we did not apply on-line, it was too restrictive from my point of view and paper was still allowed everywhere. Now, you are pushed towards the online - some do not allow paper.

Anyhow, we were assured that unless we heard from them that the application was proceeding fine. Since you got a confirmation of the application, I would not worry unless contacted.

@smoda61 : I just guessed at that time. I did not know exactly about the time :) But i am sure that that already went to Bowdoin days ago. Anyway, Bowdoin sent mail to confirm me about fee waiver, ED II . However, they dont mention about other materials. anyway, sigh of relief. Its ok now.
