application deadline extended to Jan 9

counselor at my high school forwarded this email to seniors. its a message from the admissions dean at UVA to my high school's college counselor sent today, january 3rd, saying they extended the deadline... just in case anyone was panicked or curious.

Late last night we experienced technical difficulties with our server which resulted
in some students having problems submitting their on-line application by the
January 2, 2008 deadline. In light of this event and the power outages in some areas
of the country due to heavy snow, we have decided to extend our application deadline
one week to January 9th, 2008. We hope this will give students additional time to complete
their applications. The on-line application should be accessible this afternoon.
If your student has already submitted his/her application online successfully
and he/she has received this email, it is because the student created multiple
accounts. In this case, the student may ignore this email. Students who have
any questions or difficulties can call the admission office at 434-982-3200 for
assistance.

Thank you very much for your patience.

Best wishes,

Jack Blackburn
Dean of Admission
University of Virginia

All students with application accounts were emailed at 2 PM today. A message was also posted on my blog at 10:45 AM.

should I be concerned that I didn't receive an email?

C, see the comments on the blog topic.

OMG, I saw my app in the stack!!! jk, but I was just feelin it, ya know?

One question: After reading your blog, I didn't see any info pertaining to those with 2 accounts. I received an email, but don't ever remember setting up 2 accounts. Help?

PS...CavDog is so cute! Who keeps him?

People who have more than one account usually don't remember setting up the first one...or two...or three. I think the record is five accounts for one person.

CavDog (not his real name) is mine, though he visits the Office of Admission once in a while. He hasn't been on the blog in a few months...

No email received about the extension. Would this be because the app is already in?

That's correct.

If I applied (and created my account) after the deadline extension, will admissions officers take that into consideration and assume it's a lack of interest, because I assure you--in my case--it is not.

In a transfer thread, Dean J wrote that when your application was submitted isn't even known by the people reviewing applications. I would assume that counts for freshman admissions too, but I'm not sure if the fact that it was after the original deadline is an exception.
