I am really getting confused on how to do my essays. I am right now using tips from papers that college kids are using, but my teacher I feel is being more simple. He use to do the admissions for a university, and says that the admission officer is just looking for structure more than creativity, but I do not feel like this is true for boarding school nor other universities. I'm not sure who to believe though nor what I should do.

How should I try to write my essay? What do I say to my advisor/teacher who is against my essays?

For example, if the question is, "What is your favorite word?" he will have me answer like this:

First Sentence: My favorite word is comical.

Body: Give a really simple example of why my favorite world is comical

A summary of the summary: So, in times of trouble being comical is great.

My Version (I didn't include to much, sorry if its a bad draft in your opinion. I don't really want to do a draft for someone to steal, even if it is really sucky)

First Part: I stared at my friend as she was crawled up on my couch crying her heart out.
I felt helpless for there was not much I could do to fix her problem. So, with a smile I said I was going to get her a drink of water, but instead ran head first into the kitchen door and right away did a dramatic faint onto the cold floor. She laughed her head off, which made me feel so happy because she was no longer crying. That is why my favorite word is comical.

Body: Say more on being comical.

Summary: Do a heartfelt summary that includes a really good ending sentence.

Any advice/links/book titles are greatly appreciated! Thanks!
