Ok...i'm pretty confused on how much I should write on the essay...I heard the max number of words is about 500, but the statement"it must be no longer than 120 eighty-character lines of text(including spaces and blank lines)" on applytexas confused me...

I calculated that 120*80 would be 9600 characters, my essay currently is at 508 words, and according to word count, it's 2591 characters without spaces, and 3098 with. With 40 lines. So that means I can write like 1500 words at this rate....something tells me this is not right...

Did I misunderstand something...?

Also, I'm at top 7.07% of my class(40 out of 565), so I'm an auto admit, but I'm just wondering if Cockrell School of Engineering does rolling admissions? I heard some competitive majors won't get them...If they do, will it give me an advantage if I submit my application early? My current ACT and SAT scores are not very ideal(29 ACT, 1890 SAT), and I retook the Sept 10 ACT, and waiting for the Oct 1 SAT. Should I wait for my new scores to come in or just send the ones I got ASAP?

And does it matter if your rank goes down during the senior year?(As in drop out of top 9%) Or does it only matter up to the time you send in your transcript?(My school won't run another rank until 2nd semester, which is past the deadline). Can they reject your admission if by the end of senior year you are no longer in top 9%?(I remember they require high schools to send in a final transcript after senior year finished..) I'm running out of AP classes to take, and must get all the annoying required credits such as fine arts, speech etc in. None of them offer AP/honor classes...even if I make all As, my GPA will drop...
