I see that UT austin wants no more than 80 120-character lines for their essays and they say that their average essay is 2 pages long. i find this unbelievable in terms of application work. one of my essay is 650 words (my common app essay) and the other essay is like 250. would this have a HUGE impact on my college admissions. i REALLY dont want to write the essays, and UT austin isnt on my "top" list.

It sounds like your major isn’t business or engineering and you qualify for automatic admission. Regardless, what is your intended major and class-rank?
You might get away with this attitude for less-selective majors like education, communications, or journalism.

Anyways, just came across this:
<a href=“Chance me to Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Cal Poly, UIUC, USC , UC berkeley (industrial engineering) - #14 by toesockshoe - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/17648509/

OOS admissions at Texas are unbelievably difficult, especially for engineering. You will want to send a great application. Your test scores are superb (engineering takes the Math and Writing portions of the SAT), but you might want to expand on the 250 word essay. Aim for 400 or 500 words.

@Fredjan my major is electrical engineering and im in the 3rd decile of my school. lol, not too good. so my gpa UW is 3.75 and my sat scores is 2130 (740m, 750w, 640 r).

You’ll have a hard time getting in with that ranking.

Quality over quantity. How good is your essay?

It is true that for UT you have to cross the stats hurdle first.

@Lizardly oh, what did you mean by saying I have to cross that hurdle first. are my stats not on par for the college?

The SAT score is average for engineering----I think the average is 2100, but don’t quote me on that. The class rank is the problem. Are you OOS? Then the hurdle is higher.

If it isn’t your top choice, don’t worry about it. Apply and see what happens, but focus on your priority applications.

@Lizardly yeah, im OOS, and my sat is 2130. not doing too well in my school im around the 24th percentiles (with my 3.75 UW gpa). weighted is like 4.01.

thanks for the input

What is your home state? UT is great, as is Austin, but most big state schools have accredited engineering programs. (Maybe they all do, idk). Are you applying to your home state U, too?

This is blasphemous, but if you are wanting to come to school in Texas, have you looked at A&M? Not quire as hard to get into from OOS.

@Lizardly whats blasphemous? also im applying to my home state schools too (in california).

@toesockshoe - Lizardly was saying it is blasphemous to recommend A&M because the two schools are arch-rivals.

@McCombsHopeful oh haha.
