Application Essay!

First, Congratulations to ALL THOSE WHO GOT ACCEPTED!!!

I’m applying as regular decision and I hope I get accepted too!

I am working on my application essay and it says do NOT exceed one page… does that mean I have to write my essays without double spaced? how big does your font have to be?

And about the 1st choice of 2nd application essay,

What does it mean by

“You have just completed your 300-page autobiography. Please submit page 217.”

I have no idea!

By the way, those who are applying as RD, how are you guys doing with essays? almost done? or havent even started?

It just means... do not exceed one page.....

and I don't know if you should be applying to Penn if you don't know what they mean by the autobiography? Well anyways, I'm sure it will come to you.

.................................i know what an AUTOBIOGRAPY is.. it just doesnt come to me like '300-page' and submit page 217.

Wow.
Just imagine that you wrote a 300 page autobiography.
Now give them whatever is on page 217.
Goodness.

O.K? wow thanks for really really nice reply

Okay. Here's a word for word explanation for what you have to do.

Give them a one-page essay on something that happened to you in your life. Hence, a page of your autobiography. I wrote about band class in 6th grade, and others wrote about when they are 30 and are winning an Oscar. Just write a page from your autobiography.

oh i get it now i feel so stupid.. sorry about being little sarcastic.. i saw your stats! I'm from korea also! where r u from?
well i should say what city?

lol aw siva, no worries. It's a bit of an interesting question, but it's basically constructed to allow you to be as creative as you want. You can assume the autobio is your completed life and 217 is when you're 45 or it can be your life up till now and a description of a really memorable such and such. It's about as open-ended a question as it gets. As far as the just one page thing, it just has to do with online formatting/viewing I'm assuming, so no I wouldn't double space it. I made my font smaller and fiddled with the margins as well to give myself more room. Good luck!

EDIT: lol ok, already answered sorry

Thank You JennyAnne!! thats a sweet response but I think i'm gonna do the taking risk one.. i have a good one about my friend.

yea siva i wrote a autobiography essay den pulled it out at last minute and did a first experience one..just write on the question that tells alot about who you are. lol and good luck

Haha sorry, I'm never this mean, I just felt... different... lol. Hope I helped? I actually changed my font to 11.5 and changed the margins to .9 inches to make it fit.
I've never actually lived in Korea, but my mom's from Seoul, and my dad's from Pohang, but they all live in Seoul now. Do you live in the states?

my Why Penn? essay was a page long, regular font (times new roman, 12 pt), single-spaced. I made the margins wider because it was too long. I got it to fit though.

I was deferred. (definitely not the length of the essay's fault lol)

Thank you guys all for kind response!! and place8726, yeah i live in Erie,PA! do you speak any korean tho?

I can understand it all... and carry a basic conversation... lol that's about it.

page 217 is supposed to be where you are in life right now. So basically, answer the question, "Who are you?" or explain your position in life right now. Just make sure it's in the present

Funkyeah - It definitely does not have to be in the present. I know people who have written about a time before they were born, or when they are old and gray-haired. I wrote about when I was 10 years old.

And also, it doesn't have to be necessarily 2/3 of your life, like page 217/page 300.... everyone asks that question. It just means, any point in your life you want to write about.

It doesn't mean any point of your life right now. It could be your future. You could say what you want to accomplish in life and what you wanna do in the future.

i disagree with funkyeah. in fact, i didnt do that at all (and i got in). its whatever you want it to be, the 217.

don't worry about length just write a good essay and if it comes out longer don't sweat it.
