Application fees waived?

I'm not sure if this question should go in this forum, but do most universities waive application fees for low-income students?

yes, they do

You cna get fee waivers from your school GC. Some colleges also waive their fee if you apply on-line.

attached is a thread from the parent's forum that has a list of schools that have free applications

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=62933&highlight=free+applications%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=62933&highlight=free+applications</a></p>

I'm a little confused. A waived application means the application itself (the physical form) is free, but do you still have to pay for the admissions officer to look at your application and reject or accept you? If it is waived then are all the costs basically erased other than the postage or whatever? Or do you still need to pay for applying but not for the application form?

If the fee is waived then there is no cost to apply to the school.

If the fee is waived for online applications, then you must apply online in order not to pay an application fee.

IFthe fee is waived (free) no matter how you apply then the only cost you will have is postage.

yes, and a lot of schools offer free fast-track apps that dont require you to write an essay and many more offer a free online app

One of the schools ( a state university) my S applied to waived the application fee for anyone who scored 1300 or better on the SAT.

please can any one reply with, that how to write an application requesting waiver of school fees.

Best Regards,

Malik, generally students are using the waiver they got from having an SAT fee waiver (I think you just enter the waiver form number on the Common App, if that’s how you’re applying). Or they print the NACAC fee waiver form (see link above) and take it to their guidance counselor who signs it and affixes the school seal…if you don’t participate in the reduced school lunch program you may have to take a copy of your parents’ last tax return (first 2 pages only) in order for them to verify your income to qualify. Then they mail it with their app (or to admissions, if they’re applying online). Most online apps ask about fee waivers so follow the directions given on the website for the school.
Caveat: If you’re an international, I don’t believe you can use the NACAC form…not sure about SAT waivers, but you likely would have needed to get one before now anyway.
