I wrote my common app essay on how diversity is mis-handled in our society. I planned on using that essay for all my applications. Unfortunately, one of the short answer questions is on diversity. Should I make a completely new essay or should I just have a short answer and an essay on diversity.

I'm really confused on this, what should I do?

Aren't the essay topics for th Michigan application constrained too?

One of the questions for the essay is "Discuss an issue of local concern. Why is this issue important to you? How do you think it should be addressed?"

Well it seems as if you can use your essay either as a short answer or an essay. I suggest you use it as a short answer (because you actually have a choice for which essay you can do).

The essays hardly matter and the admission people LOVE buzzwords like "diversity" so go ahead and use it.
