Application Problem =\

I am a soon-to-be senior, and I am seriously considering applying to Stanford under the SCEA plan because it is my top choice. I just have to make an important decision regarding my standardized testing in the upcoming months. I have taken the SAT and received a cumulative score of 2030, which is low for Stanford's standards, but I am confident in my ACT score of 33. I would prefer not to send my SAT scores to Stanford because they are clearly not as impressive as my ACT score, but Stanford strongly encourages me to send SAT II Subject Tests. I plan on taking these tests on the October testing date, but that would leave me no time to try and take the SAT again. My main conflict is that in order for me to send my SAT II Subject Tests, I am going to have to send my SAT score, too. I don't know how important it is for me to send my SAT II Subject Tests, and was wondering if anyone had advice?!

Stanford would consider your ACT score over your SAT score.

I believe College Board is going to let students choose what SAT scores to send, but I think that doesn't start until 2009.

Either way, if you can do better on the ACT, don't worry about retaking the SAT. Stanford uses the score report to verify your scores, but the ones you report on the application are the ones that matter.

So, are you suggesting that I should retake the ACT? I have been debating whether it would be worth the time and money to shoot for a higher score, but I wasn't sure if that would affect my chance of admission...

Stanford looks at the higher score of the two (ACT or SAT) and so if you feel like your ACT is high enough I wouldn't worry about sending them the SAT I with the SAT II scores.
