Does anyone have any insight on what is preferred by the college, the online application or the paper? I know that you can get more information if you download the application and then type on it. What looks better to the college? My impression from what I have read on the website is that they prefer the online application. Also, for anyone that already got into the college, did you send more than 2 teacher rec's and what is the story with a personal profile? This information is for my son who plans to apply early. Thanks!!!!

Do the online app unless you dont have internet (which if you claim you dont by sending in a paper app, they're gonna raise an eyebrow). Dont send in extra stuff- columbia specifically advises against it UNLESS it is RESEARCH/Music/portfolio kinda thing. That means no resumes, activity lists, "profiles", preferably no extra reccs either unless its again employer/research

sending in a list of accomplishments specifically labeled as an Appendix isn't a terrible thing as long as it's limited to one page. Try VERY hard to remove trivial or petty stuff though - or else they'll wonder why you didn't just put it down where the application asked for it.

Online applications are always preferred because they go straight into the electronic system. Paper applications just get scanned into the electronic system anyway, but then it takes secretaries' time, and still has no effect on the admissions officers. Maybe if you hand-deliver it, but even then it'll look corny.
