On my college applications:
-- Should I put psychology or economics as my major. Will that decision vary by school? I know schools look at it to a certain extent to try to get certain concentrations of majors... so I am worried... especially with UChicago, WUSTL, YALE, ND, and NW. What should I do?

It doesn’t matter. Colleges just look at this to see what you are interested in. Students often switch their major at least one time in their first 2 years of college. The only time this matters is if you are applying to schools that admit by major (rare) or if you need to choose one school within a university (eg college of engineering vs college of arts and sciences). If you like both, why not list both as potential majors?

Hey! So, I noticed that I could submit a supplement to UChicago with an art type thing, and I have a short story that I’m particularly proud of that I am trying to get published. However, it is about 10 pages long and the website asks for only about 5 pages long for Creative Writing supps. Should I submit anyway? Should I email the guy and ask him? Should I wait to see if I hear back from a magazine?

The foregoing is excerpted from Chicago’s undergraduate admissions website (see the applicable URL). I may not have researched this adequately, but I found nothing to indicate a five page constraint. With this said, admissions readers and officers are currently VERY busy (and they will be for several months); only you can assess if your short story provides substantive and additional information that is truly germane to their appraisal and decision processes.
