So, my application to UMN was delivered and completed Oct. 20th. but recently before this winter break I asked my student councilor if he could send a letter of recommendation. He obliged and immediately went back to his office to do so. I’d have the tendency to believe that the letter would show up in the “materials received” area, but it hasn’t. Does anyone have any knowledge about this? Should I just call the admissions office and ask? Thank you.
It didn’t show up for me either. I think only required materials show up. I got in either way.
I sent in a couple of recommendation letters, but I directly emailed them to my admissions counselor and he put them into my application tracker. They went under the received materials tab, and I’m sure yours will as well. It might take a little while to show up, especially with the holidays. It couldn’t hurt to call though! Good luck
We had rec letters that we didn’t even request show up on the Tracker after D had been accepted!! I think her counselor got confused and sent them out to all her prospective colleges even though they were intended just for a couple of schools out east . . . . BTW, from what I’ve been told the U of MN does read these letters so even though it doesn’t require them, they do become part of the student’s file and are used when considering admission status. If you are concerned about the whereabouts it wouldn’t hurt to call the admissions people just to see if they have it on file. We haven’t had any issues with U of MN but have with a few other college admissions offices misplacing/misfiling things . . . it does, indeed, happen.
Thanks for the responses guys! For follow-up, the letter of recommendation just showed up in “received materials” today, approximately 2.5 weeks after it was sent. Moral of the story: be patient with the application tracker
