Application Status Question - Recommendations

Do received online recommendations show up on the Material Status List?

They do not appear there for D, and she's expecting 3 of them. I'm wondering if she needs to send a reminder, or if they got lost because they arrived before the application itself.

Call Admissions. They can look it up for you.

I was told they could not look them up as they were not “required” documents. My son’s didn’t show up but we were assured by the senders that they had indeed been sent. I think UT Austin has the best site showing received documents.

Last year, they never showed up on status. Admissions indicated that since they aren’t required, they don’t update/post them. I do know people who inquired last year via phone or the Facebook Admissions page, and Admissions would tell them if they had arrived and were in the file or not.

From a couple of years ago, there were posts indicating the letters weren’t that important. There’s an assumption that everyone can find a couple of people to say something nice. Personally, I still had teachers in AP classes send them, but I have no idea how important they were to the Admissions decision.

My daughter had 3 LOR sent, and they are not showing up on her application tracker either. She is sure her teachers sent them, so it is probably something that does not show up as being received since it is not a required item.

Did you invite recommenders via UW’s online rec form page? If so, you should have received an e-mail soon after that contains a link where you can check the status of the letters as well as invite more letter writers. D’s still says ‘pending’ for both, no surprise, since the online forms are a pain for the teachers, I think. I can’t send you the whole link, since it takes you to your own logged in status directly, but it’s https://admissions.wisc.edu/recommendations/invite/portal.php</a> plus some digits that are the login info, I suppose. For application status, it says they are reviewing it now, which is weird, since it’s not complete w/o the letters, unless they really don’t use them much in decisions as billywesty says.

Our experience last year was that, as recs are not required and app is complete without them, they are not included in the list of docs received and are not part of the tracking system. UW uses an online form which teachers access themselves and they receive the email confirmation that have gone through. Both my son’s writers last year emailed him to say they got confirmation the LOR went through. Perhaps check with your recommenders.

The person I called wouldn’t disclose whether they are in the file or not. They said to go back to the people who submitted them and see if they got an email confirmation.

What a pain!

That’s funny that wasn’t there before. The only option that we knew about was to give the teachers a link to

http://www.admissions.wisc.edu/recommendations/form.php</a></p>

Now that site doesn’t seem active, it redirects you to another place which they can submit. They probably submitted, but now she has to go back and verify.
