My son is applying ED and EA to 2 schools. We want to wait for the responses in mid December before sending out the rest of his applications for regular decision, in order to avoid paying application fees that might not be necessary if he gets in to the ED school. If they are sent to his guidence counselor mid December, they will get to the schools right at the deadline. Will that put his application at a disadvantage? Are they read as they arrive or are they all gathered together, then all read after the deadline? Does anyone know?

I'm fairly certain that the admissions committee will read the applications after the deadline, regardless of when they were sent in.

imo, only rollings read apps in the order the're sent in. EA/ED and RD wait after the deadline before reading begins.

thanks for your responses

Tell S to continue working on the RD apps (essays, etc) before dec 15 but no need to send them in yet. **when/b) S gets an acceptance letter on dec 15, he won't have to pay the extra fees.
