Applied 1 month ago as a transfer for CALS and still haven't received Acceptance/Denial?

Hello, I was just curious if it was normal to have not received a decision yet? I called CALS today and the lady said it was typically 2-3 weeks after submitting application. Has anyone else applied to CALS and not gotten an answer yet?

It’s not a month from when you have applied but from when your application has been referred.

Person with CALS insight here.

As a transfer, until you submit a transcripts from your state college/current university showing you have earned an AA degree or equivalent, CALS will NOT give you an admissions decision. If the general admissions office for the university said no (if you have a really tanked GPA, lots of Ws, etc.) you would have already gotten the denial.

If you haven’t already, send an updated transcript showing you got you AA (another after the initial one you sent when you applied), and then wait. It should say on your “portal” where you log in to see your admissions decision towards the bottom that they’re requesting another transcript even if you sent one already to see if you got your AA. Usually they can send electronically and it will only be a couple of days to get your “decision.” Make sure to send your HS transcripts too, they still need them for some reason even if your AP, IB, AICE or foreign language credit is already on your college transcript, it’s dumb but they still require them. If you’re doing critical tracking courses over summer, be sure they’re either on your transcript as IP courses or you contact CALS and let them know you’re in them.

Most of the “decisions” have already been made for summer B/fall but they wait to see proof of AA on the transcript before admitting you for real and letting you know. Be warned, you still can be denied by CALS if you’re a “not competitive enough applicant” aka your GPA is too low, mostly for the bigger majors like biology, microbiology, FSHN, animal sciences, CALS can still deny you. For the smaller majors, like horticulture, botany, AEC, geomatics, etc. it’s an almost guarantee that they will take you, they’re happy to get students. I am in a smaller major an know someone who transferred in with a 2.02 GPA.

Sucks for people doing summer classes for their AA…meaning until the Dean’s office gets proof of AA degree on the updated transcript from the admissions office, you will not be admitted, and for some that literally can be like a week before classes start and it’s a struggle to go to “Preview” (warning: other than registration, Transfer Preview is a joke and a waste of money unless you’ve never stepped foot on the UF campus before) and get an apartment, job if need be.

I went through this last year, i.e. applied in February and sent HS and CC transcripts and still didn’t get my decision until early June for fall once they got that transcript officially saying I got my AA. It was almost magic, like less than three days after sending the updated transcript the decision was there. I even had a 3.86 GPA when I applied and it still took getting that AA.

I am a rising senior who transferred into CALS last fall with experience working with them, OP (or anyone else ever in this boat I guess) if you have any questions post or PM me and let me know. Best of luck!
