Hello! I applied and got accepted into UCI. However, I was disappointed to find out that I was accepted as Undeclared/Undecided even though I applied as a Comp Sci & Engineering major. What steps should I take in order to switch to CSE?
Also, do you think a BS in CSE and a MS in CS is a good pathway I should follow? Or should I consider Informatics/Software Engineering?
Take ICS 31 in the summer, it will is very hard to get into the CS prereq during the year. If you can test out of ICS 31, take ICS 32 in the summer. You should get A’s in the ICS 31-33 to have a shot.
It says minimum if 3.0 or 2.7 but it needs more than that to have a real shot right? Is it as crazy as UCSD where you needed 4.0’ish based on GPA merit?
Honestly, UCI U/U is the worst department at UCI to be stuck in. I am transferring out of the school because most of the majors are too impacted, and if you don’t have a certain GPA to get into the more popular majors then they will try to sell you on majoring in something in the humanities or a less desired major, don’t fall for it! Also be careful around the assistant director Norma, she is one of the meanest/ heartless people I have ever met, and many of my friends that have gone to her with issues can attest to that. If you want to leave a department feeling disrespected and hopeless even though you worked your whole high school career to enroll into the major of your dreams just to get shot down and told to major in something useless like English or film and media studies, U/U is the department for you. avoid U/U at all costs. I am so happy that I am transferring and majoring in something that I actually care about, into a department that actually treats their students with respect and care, and I happy that I thought for myself and did not listen to this BS department. Honestly just beware.
thanks for the insight! Do you think it will be difficult to transfer into CS? I am planning on taking a ICS 31- transferable course over the summer and I already try to get myself as involved into CS as much as possible in high school. Do they really only look at your freshman quarter grades in determining the transfer into that major?
